Removed the plastic screw tonight just so I could get some slack on the cable and give it some oil while its still new. All good but it wont tighten, it removed with a little pressure but anything beyond finger tight and it rotates to being loose.
No force applied to this whatsoever but it feels like it may fall out? Is this normal or should it at least nip up finger tight.

Pretty sure all of the more recent Shimano shifters that use that type of arrangement are the same.
Think it like 1/2 to 1 full turn and its 'tight'.
Had a few go like you describe but never lost one, just tighten to its max and see how you go.

Cheers mate, there's no tightening on mine, finger tight and it rides over the thread and becomes loose, ill pop a bit of silicon on it just encase it disappears. Very odd.

It's just a dust/dirt/water plug.
It doesn't even need to be there. But if you've ruined the threads a bit of mastic or gaffer tape would do the same job.
