Shimano motors

Are shimano motors plug and play , eg , if you get ebay shimano will it work without configuration ??[ i think Bosch need to be taken to a dealer to be matched up]

Good question, I've been toying with the idea of buying a spare EP8 motor 'just in case' but I've also read conflicting reports that some are indeed plug and play and others need a Shimano dealer only update which they will not do because it's out of the 'official' Shimano network (ie, they aren't getting a slice of the pie £$€).

Instead of going another bike, chose to hang back, so in the interim ordered 1 x Ep8 from AliExpress.... The local bs was my intention however the returned call abet onShimano interrogation, so options was to go online.....

Owning 2 bikes both steps e 8000 both motors cooked..... here begins the hobby project.....

With nil info to Shimano's influence with AliExpress..... l am taking motor arrives pre set AU standards.... wheel size guessing 29-27.5 ? likewise speed guessing at 25km.....

Expecting to a sufficiently bubble wrapped motor within a box and not much more....

Both frames are out of warranty, requiring some eyeing in while drawing to areas of carbon removal, for ease of room aligning for bolting same motor mounts plus room to add in new cables with converter adaptors....

Ps haddn't intently thought to take this thread away, ideally provide a heads up morphing into motors portal online for the status of returning lol....
