Shimano battery lock replacement

Looking at an old emtb that has a Shimano E8000 system. The battery BT-E8020 is integrated into the downtube and can be removed with a key. The key is missing and I rather not have a lock at all, as I don't see the point (for a mountain bike).

I suspect replacing internally routed cables without removing the battery can turn into a nightmare and I would need to replace at least one.
  1. How would you open the lock and remove the battery? I heard people drill the locks or pick them.
  2. Is it possible to replace the lock cylinder with a new cylinder and key, or better with a lock placeholder that takes an Allen key, as you can see in this article:
Shimano STEPS E8000 in Review (see photo below).
  3. Are those off the shelf Shimano parts that can be swapped, or are they manufacturer specific (Scott)?

Honestly if I can drill the lock to a point that I can open and close it with a screwdriver, it's probably good enough for regular maintenance.
