Rise only with range extender?

I'm thinking about buying a used 2022 Rise with 360 battery. Suppose if the main battery has glitches as it ages, would adding the extender somehow fix potential problems?
Sorry but not an electrical engineer, so not sure if I'm phrasing my question correctly.
I usually do short lunch time rides so want a cheap, light bike I can easily take out of minivan without yanking out my back.
In perfect world, I'd have the main battery uninstalled to make bike easy to lift out of the car and just pop in the extender, but I assume that the bike needs main battery functional to start up?
I'm on bosch right now and a shitty athlete, so I expect to run the bike in highest power mode since I'm spoiled by the higher torque and don't really want to think about remaining power once I'm on the trail.
Thanks for any feedback!
