Riding around Wayho & Entwistle / Turton reservoirs?

I’ve ridden around these reservoirs quite a few times but have recently been told it’s not allowed. It seems there’s some old by-law that forbids cycling around them. Can any local forum members clarify this?

There’s a few of us that have ended up riding through there after dropping down from holcombe hill. We all live in the Radcliffe/ Bury area and tend to go up the hill and down towards Edgworth and round the reservoirs, through to Harwood into Bolton and back home. It’s a good ride round.
I only asked as Id been told it was “illegal” and didn’t want to upset any locals when we go through. We take our time on the trails, are always polite and never really have any tutting moments. We’re all “50 somethings” so can’t really handle high speed offs anymore. We just like exploring our local areas.
