Totally off topic, but it's the lounge. Just did these for a friend and it was a pig, so sticking the info here in case anyone else in the universe needs to do it.

These often seem to come in Chinese - frequencies and the language (it says the channel number and so on when you change).

You can re-program them using an app called CHIRP, which is easy enough to find and download.

The connector cable uses a (or copy of) Prolific PL-2303 Serial to USB chip. This is fine, except it's not compatible with windows after 2020 so your walkie talkie or talkie walkie if you're French, won't connect - it just throws up an error.

You can get round this by purchasing a newer style cable if you can find one - not that easy.

Or .. you can just fudge windows by forcing an old driver instead.

Basically, stick the cable in. Goto device manager. Look in Ports (COM & LPT). Right click on the Prolific driver (which will have an extended name warning it won't work). Uninstall it - this part might not be necessary, but it's what I did.

Unplug the cable from USB.

Download the p3200 zip file (below) and extract the file in the zip into a folder.

Run the file. Do the install.

Plug the cable back in.

Back into Device Manager. Find the driver again. Right click and update driver.

Select Browse my Computer for driver.

Don't click a file/folder, click the bit below which says "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".

Select the 3.2 version from 2007. I tried several different versions, but that was the only one I could get to work.

Remove the USB cable again .... then re-insert it. If you re-boot, windows will probably fix the driver back to the one we don't want - this will depend on your windows version though.

I've added a second file which contains the CHIRP config files for an English/UK config and a English/French config file. They're .img files so had to be zipped. So you'll need to unzip them, then you can open them in Chirp and download them to your walkie talkies to set the correct Frequencies. I've mainly included these because it was so freekin boring entering the info and no one should have to go through that.

That must have earned you a few bières
I took them back at lunch and he asked how much ... I said you can pay in beer ... (it's my normal currency).

He was most adamant I consume some then and there but for once managed to delay it as I had other things to do and it's not actually raining for once ! :)

Between my family and friends we have several dozen Baofeng radios (mostly uv-5r and uv-82). I have one of the newer programing cables and haven't had an issue programming them with CHIRP and windows. I prefer the individual programming software over CHIRP but have used both.

I have zero complaints about the radios and recommend them to anyone.
