Repairing my handlebars

Mine is a Cube reaction Hybrid SLT 625 2020 with the standard Newmen ALU handlebar.

Has anyone upgraded their bars and can answer me this? Is the grip glued on? It seems to have a plastic sleeve under the rubber. I cannot get it off.

I had a big 'incident' and am faced with this repair/replace and have lost 40 mm of the right hand bar. I thought I would ask the Cube experts just before getting out the hacksaw!

I’ve just bought a new bar for my Cube, it was only about £25. Took 10 mins to swap all the cables etc over.

How about a new bar and new grips which you lock on with an Allen key as opposed to the twist on variety?

That looks a bit like you "Did a Sordy" ? (Bike half falls off bike rack) ...

Steve is very experienced in this technique.

Yep, a whole "twice" and I'm an expert. It was traumatic though. I was lucky that I had Ergon GP1 grips that took most of the abrasion from the road, even at 40mph. The grip needed sanding to smooth it out a bit and I only lost part of the bar end. It was at an angle and I only lost part of the end of the bar, so the bar length is unaffected.

Precisely, a Thule feature to bend the tow-bar tail rack back at 45 degrees to miss the tailgate, accidentally deploys at 50 mph on the road three miles after leaving home. Cube bikes have wide handlebars so one side hits the road! Cube grips have an Allen key inner ring, but the rest is still 'stuck' after moving the ring back. That was the reason for my question about removal, but the next step is a hacksaw to shorten the bar or rescue the controls before fitting a new bar.

This ugly look after the damage is now all fixed and repaired using a Nukeproof carbon bar and all is well again!

Pity about also losing my Kiox bar display unit as I forgot to remove it when in transit, I've ordered a new Nyon and will await the very long lead time for it to arrive from Bosch.

I am worried about this exact issue, deciding which rack to buy at the moment as I was using a Saris Bones hanging off the back but the ebike (Cube) is so heavy it looks very precarious and bangs about as the bike frame does not sit well on it either. So I am loading it in/out of the car until I get a towbar and rack. I am looking at a Buzzrack E-Scorpion or E-Hornet.

Glad you got the bike sorted, shame about the Kiox

I'm in a bike group where some use the tow-bar bike racks from Thule and have no problems reported. Mine was probably not checked after a very long lockdown period of non-use. I recommend the folding version "Thule XT-2 folding 933" which carries two e-bikes (normally) without problems. You should post a new question to the group on this subject as there must be lots of experience in the forum.
