Rear Derailleurs???

A rear Derailleur question...
Will any 11 speed Fit my AllMtn 5.0?
My rear Sram failed today and we spent an hour in the mud fixing it. I want to upgrade, what is the difference between long and medium cage?? What should I look for?

I have a XDURO AllMtn 5.0 and was not impressed with de Sram NX and wanted a bit bigger range.
So went for a Shimano XT short cage, XT shifter, 11-46 XT cassette and KMC chain.
Short cage because difference 11-46 is 35 tooth, range of the XT short cage is 39.
I needed a new shifter because of the cable pull ratio, Sram and Shimano don't match.
