Hi,

I am looking for a solution to put all tools for a usual ride on my bike to get rid of any bag.

Currently I am riding a Santa Cruz Vala and I want to use a range extender from time to time.

Anyone tried something like a Oneup pump with the side mounting which is usually used with a normal bottle cage? Will it fit? will there be any problems?

Any tips for other solutions are welcome. The bike got a mounting under the top tube where I got a spare tube. But somehow I need to carry a pump and a tool with some plugs at least somewhere else.
Without the range extender I am using a bottle cage which holds a pump and a tool but I dont want to change everytime I use the extender.

On modest rides, I also like to roll without a pack., requiring all the tools and pump to be on the bike. For the tools, I run a OneUp EDC in the steerer tube. On my previous bike, I mounted the EDC Pump on the downtube, with a plug kit inside the pump. I don't carry a tube on these shorter rides, but I'm fastidious about maintaining tires and sealant, so I get by. There are downsides, however, to mounting the pump on the downtube. As you bounce around on the trail, the bracket flexes just a bit, and the pump can contact your downtube. The top part of the pump is aluminum and will put a mark on your paint. A single wrap of black vinyl tape around the top of the pump is enough to prevent marring of your frame.

While the above solution was great on my previous bike, it's no good on my new Pivot. The downtube is too wide to comfortably accommodate the pump. The Pivot frame has water-bottle-style mounting screws beneath the top tube. They make a bracket that allows mounting the EDC pump directly beneath the top tube, but on my bike, it interferes wit the shock. My solution was to use the standard offset bracket. OneUp cautions against this type of mounting, but they don't explain why. It worked for a while, but eventually all the bouncing around caused the bracket to break.

The solution that I use today is a tiny bag that attaches to the top tube mounting screws. Check out the picture below. You might have to zoom in for a closer look. This particular bag is sold by Pivot, but the bag is made by another big-name company. I forget who, but it might be Lyzene. The EDC Pump doesn't fit in the tiny bag, so I picked up a Cycplus electric pump. Along with pump in the bag, I carry a plug kit, knife, AXS battery, two nitrile gloves, and a tiny rag. It's all a tight fit.

The Cycplus pump is the smallest they offer, and it really works GREAT. I've only used it once on the trail. My buddy was futzing around with his Amish Pump and it was taking a long time. I grabbed the Cycplus and told him to step aside. The tire was inflated in about a minute. He was so impressed, that as soon as we got home from that trip, he picked up the same pump.

I have a EDC pump on my Bullit, under the bottle cage. Just needs spacers to lift it up from the frame because downtube is so wide.

Thanks for your input. Actually another view on the equipment. Sounds pretty good. for me it was actually a must have to take a spare tube, but to be honest I didn‘t need one for years due to tubeless and tire inserts. And for longer rides with the range extender, I need a bag anyway for water.

The bag looks good, will check if I find one which fits to my bike, there is also a mounting point above the shock on my bike. With the small electric pump sounds pretty cool, didnt know of such a small one.
Or maybe the Oneup solution has enough space on my bike, that would probably be my favorite if I dont care about a spare tube.

Even fits without spacers on the Vala. was just wondering if the whole package of EDC pump mounting plus the mount of the Range Extender will fit and be save to use.

thanks for the link 🙂
