So I'm thinking of possibly getting the Rise, but having a difficult time pulling the trigger. So looking at the M10 model. From some reviews I've read it weighs about 39 lbs, throw on pedals, maybe cushcore, better tires and probably looking at just about 41lbs. I'm also looking at a Decoy, now the 2021 Decoys have yet to be released but going off last years weights, depending on what model, looking at maybe 50lbs with pedals/cushcore. So maybe a whole 9 lb difference, give or take a pound, that's it. Throw on the range extender on the RIse and your looking at even less. Unless your getting the top of line Rise and really running it with the crappy xc spec/tires your not going to be under 40lbs, even without the ext battery. Not really seeing the benefit that much on paper. Coming from a 2020 Levo that weighed just about 51lbs, I also got to ride a Commencal MetaPower quite a bit, which weighed almost 56.5 lbs. The extra 5lbs was nothing but having the extra 20mm travel front/back was awesome! Now were just talking a few more pound difference from a Rise to a full fat Decoy with 20mm more travel and full power! I'm kind of not seeing the benefit really for less than 10lb difference. On an ebike I just dont think 10lbs is a huge difference, maybe it is but I couldn't tell the difference of 5 - 6 lbs, what's a few more lbs. I dont know, sure wish I could test ride one but don't think that's going to be an option. Curious to see what others think and from people who have bought the Rise, did you own a full fat ebike before and do you notice a huge weight difference?

Depends what you want from a bike and where you ride . Rise is my first ebike so I can't compare directly but power is ample for me . I also wanted to be able to carry it on the roof carrier if need be , they have a limit of 20kg , and when not on the roof its easier to put in the boot . My local rides I'm often above motor limit speed and wanted something that didn't feel like a big weight past that speed , and I'm happy to report it doesn't and motor cut off and resistance is unnoticeable. If you do alot of bike park type rides etc then in my view go full power , if you like xc and want to feel like you've done some work then look at the Rise or maybe the Levo SL , although I feel the Rise is closer to a full fat bike .
I've been really surprised how it feels on a ride , my Anthem that I had for 7 years was stolen and the Rise is its replacement, I really don't feel I'm having to muscle a heavier bike around . Obviously I feel it when I pick it up lol .

yea above 40 pounds is sketchy getting it on the roof then worrying about it flying off
I went for the Rise as i wanted something for trail and lighter downhill use. I already have a bike i use for downhill (Capra) for when i can use uplifts. If i lived close to somewhere than had good downhill opportunities but no uplift I’d prob have gone with a full fat emtb. Instead i wanted something lighter and more playful/poppy, as close to a normal mtb as possible ?
I have a full power bike (Merida e-160 and a low power bike (eZesty) The difference is about 4.5kg (9-10lbs). Similar spec and geometry.
The difference is stark. You can definitely feel the difference the weight makes when riding. Both are fantastic fun. But different.

Adding my initial thoughts pasted from another thread if it helps...
Just a few thoughts straight out the gate after picking up new M10;
Finish and looks are excellent a classy product for sure. Found the charger flap ok but few manufacturers have really nailed this. Nice firm click on starter button.
Stickers came off carbon top tube ok with a little patience. Invisiframe now available in XL so on order.
XT shifting firm and precise if a little loud on the clunk, hope it will bed in over time. Fox 36 and rear shock are very slightly on the firm side of plush but having come off a 25kg lump I just think there’s less mass to soak things up and just needs a ‘feel’ adjustment my end. New 200mmXT rotors front and back and no squealing. Quite progressive almost SRAM like - so brake wise happy.
Manoeuvrability is so much improved on the move and lugging into and out the car and up Victorian steps to house is a relative joy especially as I have a bad back. Game changer. Walk function quite frisky on the lighter bike so useful.
Shoved into mode 2 straight away and maxed up all settings - coming of a FF you just have to ! But have to say in boost there’s some grunt there. I’d add that because of the reduced mass of the bike it sort of feels more like Trail + on a FF if that makes sense. If coming from analogue this motor will be plenty I can guarantee that. If only it had a 20mph limiter it would be a bloody good all round compromise so I think Orbea’s overall approach is a pretty fair stab all being said. Motor whine is exactly what Shimano claim ie like the Steps e8000 noise but about a third less of it so it’s def there but less obtrusive than before. There is an engine rattle but not a clatter - with the sweet sounding hub ticking away behind you don’t overly focus on it. Overall not a show stopper just annoying for the more pedantic of us ?
Above limit there’s still a clear drop off but if fit you can get a couple more mph off it but god it would be so good to have the US limit- 15-20 mph is the sweet spot on fast flowy flattish trails ?
Contact points need changing hate the Fizik saddle so Ergon will go on along with some death grips.New alloy dmr pedals look cool and match the xt 12 speed out back. Reach feels less in XL than expected so at 189-190 Cm height the bike doesn’t feel overly large or stretched. The 29ers look good in the XL frame. Very slightly upright in feel for me.
Tad inaccurate but with back wheel up on bathroom scales looking at 18.86 kg with pedals, tubeless and a DHR 2 with exo+ plus for the rear boot. more sturdy in feel than an analogue mtb but without the extra 6kg heft of a FF. Compared with an Ezesty I’d say more grunt and wider power band (In boost), and very marginally heavier in feel, more solid.

The Rise is an awesome bike and a nice gentleman purchased mine, his first ebike and he’s gonna love it! I went back to FF as I actually enjoy more power and weight. I’m now officially a Treky.

Did you consider the Orbea Wild M10 when you were going back to a FF?
I have on order 1) Trek Rail 9 2) Orbea Wild M10 and I am torn as to which to choose
It may be whichever is available first!

I did, Orbea makes nice bikes, but availability was the Trek, as I probably found the last 2021 on the East Coast!

I am torn..... both have plus and minus'; I am 5,10" and I need to be stretched in my reach as I have arthritis in my lower back and my spine has fused.... I'm a bit concerned that the Orbea may be too cramped for me (I've never ridden one!)
However... the Orbea if full carbon and lighter....

I’m 6’1” riding a Large 9.8XT. Put a 65mm plus 6 degree I9 stem on and it fits me perfectly.

The Orbea is a good buy in my opinion versus the XT 9.8 Trek. It’s $500 less expensive, nicer wheels IMO, Fox suspension, which I prefer over RS, they are very comparable. Both have great warranties. Cash and availability would be my determining factor.
