Newbie from Helensburgh, Scotland, UK looking for advice on women’s eMTB

Hi, newbie here....hello.

My hubby and I are venturing into eMTB. Originally I thought I‘d just get a hybrid as I’m not too adventurous. However I do have a cannondale MTB but mostly do forest trails and paths - I drive my hubby round the bend!

Anyhoo we’ve both agreed now we‘re in our 50’s an eMTB would get us out more. I’ve been looking at Liv bikes. Definitely interested in the Pro motor, so my two choices are Live Vall e+ Pro (hard tail) or the full suspension Liv Intrigue e+ Pro. Don’t think I’m adventurous enough to pay out for the full suspension, although my cannondale is FS. Also been looking at Ordea as our local bike shops does both Liv (Giant) and Ordea.

Would be good to hear of experiences of Liv or Ordea. I think I prefer Liv due to the reduced reach in their bikes, specifically to fit a typical women’s frame. Just not sure if it’s worth me paying out for the FS. Decisions, decisions...

Unfortunately we have to wait for 2021 models, so still for a bit of time to decide. So thought I’d ask in here.

Also just a bit of info for folk in Scotland, the Scottish Energy Trust do a 4 year interest free loan on e bikes. Just applied, so hopefully will get approval.

My wife has had an Intrigue E dual suspension for about 18 months and loves it.

The yamaha motor provides torque at low cadence, making it really rider friendly.

Dual suspension is really planted, again making it an easy bike to ride.

Only issue was with speed sensor cable poor routing causing a failure after 6 months. Replaced & working fine since.

I'm from Wollongong & she is now comfortable riding green trails on Mt Keira.

Definitely recommend the dual suspension for comfort & being able to tackle harder trails.

Hi SewAgnes, I've got Giant hardtail and I love it, its the Fathom E+ 2 Pro, 29er. Its perfect for most trails, but some of the green lanes with loose rock on rock, can throw the back end out a bit and its at those times I would have preferred a FS. These are not technical trails, just rocky green lanes and I have to pick my line a bit better than if I was on a FS.

There is no real penalty in getting a FS in eMTB terms as the motor assists with the ascents, so if you are used to a FS, you may as well get one.

Having said that I'm glad I got my HT, its a great bike and its got me out so much over the last year or so, a lot more than the previous 5 years on my normal bike. I'll probably keep hold of my HT for a while longer. Even though I like the idea of a FS sometimes, for most of my riding, either through trails, on the road, or just commuting to work the HT is a great bike and easy to ride. I even rode it in the ebike section of the local Medio Fondo the other weekend and I came 5th in the ebike category, just 10 minutes behind the winner

You will enjoy whatever bike you get.

It's will be the same issue as riding an e-MTB with standard MTB riders. You leave them behind. If your husband goes FS, then go FS, that way you have the same bike functionality and he is not feeling restricted on what trails to ride on with you, as you both have the same capability.

My partner and I recently went e-MTB and it evened things up for us, now we both get to the top of hills together. That does change the whole dynamic of riding with your partner. Much more enjoyable.

You will find the e-MTB heavier than your current bike, but that is offset by the power and the planted suspension. I have no doubt you will start exploring and riding trails you would not previously have felt adventurous enough to try. It is addictive.

I don't know the Live Vall e+ Pro, but the complaints on the women's version of my EMTB are that the center horizontal bar is too high.

I was ready to buy a Cube or similar, budget was +-2500 euro.
But they were sold-out everywhere.

So I went to Decathlon and bought the Rockrider E-st 900
It was somewhat cheaper, and besides some very little minor shortcomings, totally satisfied !
