Congratulations . here's my advice form an old guy that has been riding in the dirt since 1950. Don't let what is considered modern day mt. biking be how YOU define mt. biking . Ride the way that suits you best and pay attention to the natural surroundings as in the calm , the fresh smells of the forest , the visual beauty and the thrill of fresh air passing over your face and body. If you are drawn to the high adrenalin stuff of speed and jumping , fine , but not everyone can or wants to ride like that .
