the tosa is the dengfu E10 frame, but they do not propose the XL and they have "personalized" the size mentioned
17.5 is the E10 S
19.5 is the E10 M
21.5 is the E10 L

Yes it came stock with a 40t - these Bafang motors usually are paired with crazy high speed derestricted bikes with 1000-1500w power. So assuming a 40t works well on those.

only thing I have is a 32t so that’s going on for the time being.

also I managed to correctly get BB height -I’d say more like 348mm looking down the barrel of the bottom bracket

the chainring included is 40t? can we change that to say 34 or 36t?

The Bafang M600 has 104 BCD mount/spacing so you can put anything on it. However, there's so much output from the motor you'll feel that the 40T is just right. The downside with my wifes luna X1 is that the cranks are pretty long and she has pedal strikes a lot. There aren't too many options on how to move to a shorter crank. They use a proprietary crank mount.

Hey Rob,

Very nice bike.

I have a question about the battery.
On the website from Dengfu they say it is a Dengfu battery :
What are the dimensions of the battery ?

Can it be compared with the Bafang 820Wh battery or is it totally different ?

Luna cycles sell a shorter version. I have a set. They feel kinda funny.

I never really had an issue with pedal strike because i am relatively cautious. Pedal strike is an issue on all bikes, it's just made worse on an ebike because people tend to just sit down and pedal / plough through rough stuff, whereas in the past you had to pick lines and be more "aware".

Hi Patdam, would you confirm the size of the shox you are mounting in the bike???? I can't find this size in the imperial models...

On mine i have mounted 215x60, for that i have reduced a few the width of yoke (part in front of the seat tube). That give 163 mm rear travel. Initially it is for mount 27.5 rear. But ihave tried in first with 2 x 29". for that i have mounted fork with 160 and i will keep that for the moment. it is also easy to mount 216x63 with same modification, i will done if i find one cheap.

Hi, I like your idea, I pretend to do the same when my frame arrives, it is easier to find 216x63 than the 215x60. You have the suntour triair for less than 300€ and it would match with your fork perfectly. :) in fact that is my i.dea, 29" 27.5" Durolux 17cm front triair 216x63 rear...

i do not know your frame size, but mine in XL have 1300 for wheelbase with 160 travel. it is the reason why do not want 170 (easy to adjust on durolux). i will try 27.5 if i find 216, but keep 160 in front

I have ordered size M. My current bike is size L but this frame seems too big so I choosed M.
I have many questions for you. As I have learned reading all the post, your riding style seems very similar as mine. I usualy spend all battery in our routes, climbing for tecnical paths. Did you test how much metters of total elevation gain do you get with the whole battery?

Few test, moutain is currently under snow. On hills around my house, Where usually i can empty the batteries, with ascends of several down track in max and middle mode , it remained 40%.
I have done another exit with my friends (without AE) where i return usually with +- 30% with the shimano, it remained with more than 70%. I am confient to perform my usally exit in moutain (+- 1500 D+) whitout worrying of consumption

About the modification done on yoke to use 215x60:

original yoke width is 26.4mm. i have reduced mine to 22.5.

I have mounted 215x60, after: 1) calculation 2) test. I say "on my frame it is working". May be 216x63 also, but I don't guarantee it whitout testing. This frame is not a "piece of wood", i find it permissive and may be it have some flexibilty. It is the raison why i prefer to keeep safety margin of 5mm rather less. In any case i do not recommand to use 200x57 (may be it is these people who speak about broken frame ?)

Hi Patdam,

how tall are you?I am 1.88 and thinking to take the xl frame, is it ok or probably the 19 Inch is better?
And what about the motor, how smooth and responsive it is?You have shimano probably you have ridden other bikes, can you compare?
The power max is not that important for me

i'm 1.93 with tall legs. wich size ? big interogation and i have not the answer. I have purchase it initially, while I didn't want carbon frame and hanging battery , because it is the only brand (serious) who propose XL size. After ride i have a doubt about size and i whould like to try L (19""). i appreciate a lot the frame but it is 10cm more longer than the canyon, for sure it will be less easy on hairpin bend (not tried for the moment). Does L (with 3cm less) is also stable, easy, manageable than XL with more easy in short corner ? would I be on it as well ? i do not know. But i asked me the question. if you find the answer sday me.

For the motor, you have return higher of rob and me, we have similar feeling.

OK, sort of a fess up here.

In true school boy error or in true theory not meeting reality, having measured out the 200mm shock in place in the frame and its clearance of 60mm between the seat tube and the cross bar between the top stays, one would think with a 57mm stroke you should have 3mm clearance. I thought having seen Patdams photos I had better check by letting all the air out ( I had only let 50% of the air out due to the piggy back arrangement on the DH5, where its not recommended by Fox to work the shock without pressure in it ) and seeing fully the suspension in operation. Previously with some air in, the cross piece missed by about 3mm, tick, but was that true full deflection ?
1610742680949.png

Allas its not quite true. With all the air fully out and total movement, its not so.The cross piece rotates by about 15 degrees as it goes through the 150mm range at the back, reducing as it does the theoretical clearance of 3mm to about 0.5mm. Is that enough ? Yes and no, get some mud on there and its going to be compressed.

OK how do we give it more clearance, an offset bush in the shock will give about 3mm at each end
1610742993167.png

So if you insist on using your 200mm shock as you have one sitting around as I did, then yes you can use a 200mm shock as long as its max 57mm travel, but to give yourself true mud clearance, then fit either a single offset bush or one either end to give you back an extra 3-6 mm of length and thus clearance.

Which leads nicely on to why I like the BB to be lower to terrafirma. I ride Whytes, love em, as they feel unlike virtually every other bike I have ridden, you are riding in the bike and not on the bike. Look at any Whyte and the ground clearance is always less than normal, its just one of their characteristics and once you have ridden one, its tough to ride a taller bike. Thus a shorter overall shock with comparative stroke, will give you a lower BB.

One of the interest of the bafang BBS (may be the most great) is the possibility for everybody to adjust setting at his use. the "1 hour turbo blast" or the "daily rider". But if that is well for customer, this is rejected by the profesional, they lose control on "knowledge" that it can sale (look in diretion of bosch). May be it is the raison why bafang for the M series have "closed" her software and do not gave possibility to adjust anything ? fortunatly for me (unfortuanlly for rob) their choice of setting coresponding at my expect.
