Does anyone make a small mudguard to try and keeps some of the mud off the lower pivot point and chain ring area, arrowed in photo. They probably do, but I'm searching for the wrong thing. By the way the bike does not look this clean anymore.

I use a Mudhugger FRX ( front mudguard) on the rear..................and put the large rear mudhugger you are using over the top of it with re-useable zip ties. That way I can decide ride by ride whether I need the large mudguard on there or not...............and also swop it between bikes.

Shame this company doesnt do one for your bike and the fella just picked one up for his trek rail for the exact reasons you've said and it's pretty neat.

I have tried the mudguards from Sycomtb - They look good - but they are to short for a wet ride and the don´t give much protection against water on your back and seat.

Made my own from some innertube . Works well . Duct tape and contact adhesive keeps it in place.
Mk 2 is better but no pix yet but you get the picture.

The large rear mudhugger may not look great but unless whatever mudguard you use extends right to the back of the rear wheel you will get splatter up your back. So using removeable zip ties means at least you can decide when it is necessary and remove it in minutes if the trails are dry enough not to need it. To protect the chainstay cross member/back of the motor I use a Halfords own cheap version of a front enduro mudguard. It may need some trimming but they are only about £3 .

I'd look to fitting full length wide mudguards and trimming it with cutters to make it fit. Most have bosses at the dropouts, though if not can be stay mounted to provide a mounting point to stiffen up the guard.

For some inexplicable reason, guards on mtbs look like theyre trying to emulate MX bikes. either too short or way way too short. Neither of which is adequate.
What would be better would be something like a SKS bluemels 75U 29er or SKS veloflex 65mm 29er. And theres no doubt others.
