Hi, my name is Mark and I live just outside Reading. Been mountain biking for 15 years on various bikes, mainly Trek. Started BMXing back in t’day.

My current non-e is a Cannondale FSI 2 Carbon. I ride bridle ways mainly and it is very hilly where I live so it’s a varied terrain.

I have owned a Giant Trance E+ 1 Pro 2020 for about 6-7 weeks. I bought it to ride faster and further. Never been a fan of hills so that was a fringe benefit of having power assistance. Only ridden it for three weeks as had an incident with a couple of trees which resulted in cracked ribs etc. Interesting cause of “off” worth noting......

I have used SPD forever but decided to try platform pedals and bought some M8140, great looking pieces of kit. I have had 3 “offs” in 15 years with nothing more than bruises. During my first ride with platforms I fell off twice, first a minor pedal strike with a stump and then the major one where my pedal somehow hit a tree and threw me into another tree and subsequently the ground like a bag of spuds.

I never ride outside of my ability as I’m a bit of a pussy. I spent much time trying to work out what caused the crash and it was the pedals. I had bought M/L after much research and they are big.

Needless to say I will be back to SPD next time out (still healing). I bent the left crank arm so bought some Miranda 152 and 160mm cranks to try (from Praxis 165)

Anyway I love the bike. I attended a tryout with Haibike a couple of years ago and the seed was sewn to get one.

Riding an EMTB requires different techniques, I am sure you know. Trying to hard results in inertia from the bike but get it right and it’s a grin-inducing experience.

Changed OEM Maxxis to Eddie Current (Schwalbe fan) as split Minion on second outing. Changed saddle to SQlabs 610 for comfort and 710 grips from the same for comfort......they make a big difference.

Rental riser bars are next as slightly too aggressive for my 49 years.

Looking forward to getting involved.

Furness, South Cumbria.
Also a Trance owner since last year.
I always use SPD pedals and would not feel safe if I was not attached properly to the bike.
Also, being attached is a more efficient way to use your pedalling effort.
Just make sure you adjust the cleat screws so that they keep you clipped on, but release easily if needed.
