Hello emtb community!

I hit 40 this year and instead of buying a cabriolet for my midlife crisis I bought a bike!

I love the bike, the motor is a lot of fun. I've had the bike for 2 days so I'm still getting used to it.

I'm considering going back to the shop to swap for the XL size, I think the reach is too short and the handlebars are too low on the size L. I'm 1.85m and although that puts me in the L sizing I think the position is too aggressive.

I've not done any mountain biking since I was a teenager so it may be that my body just needs to adjust to the bike.

Welcome, fellow Merida rider!
Ride it a couple more times to see how it feels.
Bike geometry has changed a fair bit over the years, so it could be that you just don't feel like you used to, but it's not "too big" so to speak.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I've rotated the handle bars so that I'm getting more height and a little more reach. It feels much better although it might be a bit tough on the wrists. Is it normal that I'm already thinking of upgrades, after having the bike for 3 days?

I found a bmx set of jumps nearby and had a go. I got a little bit of air and now I can't stop grinning.

Is it normal to think of upgrades after 3 days? No.
It's normal to be thinking of upgrades before you've even bought the bike!!

Everything on that bike is a great spec except the fork and shock. A Marzocchi Z1 or Fox 36 fork, then a Fox Float Performance shock, would make that bike a killer.

But you don't need to rush out. Existing equipment is still great for learning.

Literally everyone in Australia, who asks me about an E-Enduro, I've been pointing them to that bike.

BTW. The transmission could also use a boost. But suspension would be my priority, if you want to tackle more aggressive terrain.
