Maiden Ride!

So, planned a route and got out on the bike for the first time today.

Now, considering I've not turned a pedal for 20 years, the aim was to take it easy and simply suss the bike out. Well, it was flawless. Enjoyed the road, trail and a couple of gnarly bits (they were scary to be fair!). Only ended up at 8 miles, but will let my body tell me later if that was too much .

My aim is to cover around 10-15 miles a day for pure exercise and the local bike trails are around 9 miles away, so would like to get to them, ride and return within a couple of weeks.

The bike seems set up right, although I did feel it on my wrists, but my lean angle isn't bad, so assuming that's just lack of cycling, plus I'm a fatty (!). I think it will take time balancing the right gear versus right mode. The natural thing is to drop a gear or two, but the modes make things quite easy in higher gears. I'm not tech enough to assess it properly, so judging on comfort at the minute. I'm certainly not ready for the downhill stuff though, that's for sure.

I suppose I just wanted to say thanks for the welcome and post a photo of course!

love the bike, everywhere's out of stock where Ive looked

It's just chance I think.

I went into Leisure Lakes and said 'pick me a bike you have in stock' and came away with this one.

That sound a bit simple, but we did look at quite a few and tried allsorts to be fair. I was on the medium/large cusp, but not intending to do the stuff young 'uns do, I felt for trails, the large was right, as did the lads in the shop.

Today's ride proved that right I think...

Nice photo. EMTBs are a different beast as you say. Not only do you have gears at your disposal but also motor/power modes so it'll take a few rides to find the right approach (y)

Try and get your pedaling cadence (rpm) to a sweet spot of between 75-95 rpm and use the gears to keep it there. That will start shedding the pounds from you...

I've lost 2 stone in a year...

In any case, doing it regularly will shed the pounds...

Thanks!

The Purion display doesn't show cadence like the Shimano displays, which surprised me, but those are the numbers I was working to.
