I'm a long term Mac user since my original Core2Duo Mac Mini , erm, years ago!

Since then I had a Mackbook Pro 15" for a few years, upgraded to SSD/maxed out RAM etc until it eventually sparked and died one day. Built myself a Hackintosh which was outrageously fast until it came to updates, then had an iMac which was slower than the Hackintosh, even with an SSD upgrade but was very stable.

Just before Christmas I bough an Intel Mac mini for making electronic, ambient music (Thirty Ghosts - available on all platforms - check it out!). Its an i7 6 core, maxed out with 64GB of ram and it never misses a beat (pardon the pun)!

However, and to my point, I've just received a Macbook Air via my work with the M1 chip. What a crazy fast machine.

Using Geekbench to benchmark this against the Mini - the M1 Air wipes the floor with it. I'm pleasantly surprised......now I know it's not for everyone, my 8GB of RAM is limited of course, but because its a SOC, it plays faster than it should.

I'm just generally very impressed, and so far have had no issues with M1 and Big Sur. What lies in the future with the Pro series remains to be seen, but it won"t be cheap no matter how fast it is.

Any other geeks out there?
