Hi.

I am a complete novice when it comes to mountain bikes (especially e bikes). I am looking to buy one and have a budget of £2-2500.
I've been told to look for a few different things to make my decision easier.

1. Battery wattage
2. Torque
3. Range

Most of what is within my budget have between 60-80 torque, between 400 and 500wh and between 50-90 mile range. I'm guessing the higher the torque, the more assistance you get when riding up hills.
I'm also wondering if the more range it does, means the longer the battery will last before having to buy a new one. If I was riding around 10 miles per day, would I get 9 days of riding before I had to fully charge again, compared to lower models with only 5 days? I've read that the batteries have a life span of 500 charges.

I am not particular about brands, I just want something that is reliable and doesn't have me replacing parts too soon. Can some of the experienced members give me some advice on what I should be looking for.

Thanks.

I think the only thing that will fit the bill is a balance bike ?

My guess is that once you’ve started down the ebike road you will be riding lots and going on routes that are a lot tougher than you think you will be doing at the moment. All this adds up to a reasonable level of wear and tear so be prepared for ongoing costs.

As for reliability you will either be fortunate or not but regular maintenance always helps. As for battery cycles think of it like a phone, eventually it will carry less and less charge.

Range is totally dependent on your own effort. The battery is fuel, the more you want out of the engine the more you will use. Add in external factors such as head wind, hard or soft ground, temperature, tyre pressures and total system weight, and you start to get an idea as to just how subjective it all is.

At the moment there is a general shortage of ebike s so perhaps find out what available within your budget and ask specific questions about your shortlist.

Welcome and good luck.
