POC Ora

I am a goggle whore, and obsession that began in a previous life chasing snow round the world, I think I have over 30 pairs of snowboard/ski goggles at the last count and about 10 MTB pairs. I have a condition called Repetitive Corneal Erosion which was caused by getting some grit in my eye a few years aback and not getting it out quick enough, so I have to be very careful with protecting my eyes, and as such have tried and tested most of the goggle offerings.

The POCS have a great field of vision, and are very comfy - they are not narrow around the nose meaning they dont restrict breathing, and the vents dont have foam over them which prevent the foam getting sweat dripping on to them causing misting up, and means excellent ventilation. The lens on the stock ora is outstanding for all conditions, its a kind of half tint that adjust to the light condition, but isn't photchromatic so there is no delay noticeable/annoying delay when changing from bright light into tree cover for example.

Also the shape of the frame means the play well with most helmets, I am also something of a helmet collector, and they fit great with my Troy Lee A2, Fox Dropframe and Proframe, Giro Chronicle and others. They are also great value imo and the quality of construction is noticeable when compared to the brands. I have some top end Oakleys with prism lenses, Melons, Smiths, Fox and some other goggles and none of them can touch the POCS.

100% Accuri for the cheapskate.
Yes....and so cheap you can have 2 or 3 each with different lenses which saves the hassle of selecting the right lens for the conditions. Mine fit both my full face and open helmet and I prefer them to glasses in muddy conditions, in thick woodland or for gnarly downhills.

Anyone use the Smiths Squads ? I know these fit the Mainline fullface helmet, but I'm still not convinced on heat/visibility/steaming ...

The Smiths have "chromapop" (or at least some do, it's generally difficult to work out which ones do and which ones don't ....) These theoretically filter specific colour cross overs, like blue/green red/green. "allowing greater definition, natural color, and clarity." Not sure if again you have to buy a specific colour lens to get specific filtering or if they all do it ? I'm also colour blind with red/browns yellow's/greens so not sure if they'd help with that or make things worse !

I think it is the Zeiss prism lenses that offer grading of the colour spectrum and a number of brands including POC and Oakley use those lenses. The clue as to which ones do and which do not is in the price if not specifically credited. The lenses on their own are expensive! The colour grading is also optimised for different scenarios....ski, road , trail.

Smith are really good, the lens tech is legit, I prefer them for snowboarding to the Oakleys. However they are pricey. The bottom of the range Fuel is a really good budget goggle, you can often find them for sub 30 quid in the sale

100% Accuri is great, anything more expensive is just more expensive.
Spy for the budget-friendly that doesn't want to go no-name.

Oakley Airbrake.

Tried most of the cheap options over the years but the Airbrake is by far the most comfortable, lenses are great and super easy to change.

Not cheap, mind.
