Is the Shimano E8000 motor interchangeable between two bikes?

I had a quick search but couldn’t find an answer to this. My partners E8000 motor has packed in (W013 then E010) and is now out of warranty by 3 months, so I’m not expecting Madison to be overly helpful or quick to assist, even if they cut me some slack on the additional 3 months.

I’m considering buying a new motor in the meantime, just to get her up and riding again, as we have riding holiday to Scotland coming up in 4 weeks.

Could I fit the newly purchased motor for now in her bike and then if Madison agree to a warranty replacement pull it out and keep it as a spare for my YT decoy? The decoy also runs an E8000 motor and potentially that motor will fail eventually, could a Shimano Steps service centre swap the motors between bikes and then tweak the software to that particular model or am I missing something?

Any advice appreciated

I think you should be gtg. Only takes 20 minutes to swap. Just dont drop the motor with the wires plugged in. I think i left my 2 rear bottom moor mount bolts loosely done and pivoted ths motor out and unhooked the 3 wires. Then took the remaining 2 motor mount bolts out. I had a warranty replacement motor , for my decoy, shipped from shimano canada. I just bolted it in and went riding. Not sure if it has some special tune for the bike. I doubt it. Wheel and crank size might make a assist/speed difference but it should still work

Shimano software may start to upgrade the firmware forcedly, so if you have country changed with other software, better have this at hand and do the change to new motor before the shimano app starts the upgrade.

I think itll still be dificult but you might have an easier time finding an ep8 or e7000. Ep8 with the cable adapters would be sweet to get a hold of. Interested to see what you turn up
