It stands to reason that the battery's bms isn't a mainstream one from Bosch, Shimano etc.

I doubt it's a DIY job as building batteries is a fine art and not something many people do (nor something I'd recommend a novice to do).

Best guess is that it was either a fishnet style or dolphin battery pack and the charger was a 4amp+

A 2amp charger wouldn't cause those type of BMS's on these type of batteries to react in that fashion (unless they were plugged in for a long time). 4amp chargers would (especially those without a method of expelling heat build up).

Goes to show that BMS's can fail if forced to regulate cell banks through discharge and recharge when left unattended.

My wall calendar tells me that the year is 2021. You'd think that by now, people would have learned not to put their batteries and chargers near flammable materials.
