Innertube advice

Hello All

Well after lazy council or farmer cut a roadside hedge and left all the hedge all over the road. I have had to get 2 new innertubes ( 6 punctures in rear, 5 in front)

The ones that came are 29 x 1.75 - 2.4 bit of a annoyed blind buy. I bought a spare with cycle (a cube 2021 140 hybrid race ) and its a 29 x 2.4 - 2.8

Query will these be ok or not, thanks in advance

You don't say what your tyre size is, but I'll guess at 2.6".
The smaller tubes will fit and will inflate OK, but the material will be stretched beyond their design and will be weaker as a consequence.
The bigger ones are perfect.

Why not consider sealant in your tubes, then you won't get a flat when you get a puncture.

Or... (you must have thought of this), go tubeless.

It is a lot easier than a beginner makes it look, but only a little bit harder than an expert makes it look.

I have thought about tubeless but have to admit it looks complicated for a novice

The first time can be intimidating and you'll need some stuff to make it happen. The most expensive being a booster pump, unless you have a compressor handy. Then tape, valves and sealant. Likely your tyres are tubeless ready. It'll be marked on the tyre.

But once you've done it once it's actually really easy and you'll never look back. Just take your time and be methodical. First time took me about 10 minutes a tyre because I really had no idea. Now I can do it in three.

Everyone's a tubeless novice initially, Steve - but with any luck at all, it could well be a doddle for you to set up.

It can be a faff, for sure - but it's every bit as likely to be easy (as in "I don't know what all the fuss is about!" easy), and it's definitely worth you looking into, I promise.

Note that I've been able to set up every tubeless conversion I've ever done, with only a track-pump: sometimes, as Gordon says, you might need a booster pump or a compressor, but I wouldn't let the lack of them stop you from giving it a go. If it doesn't work, just stick the tubes back in.

Just buy 27.5 tubs , they’ll be fine on all wheel sizes !

I've pondered the idea of tubeless. I currently run slime tubes & mtb tyres @45psi.
As i use my bike for a commute 90% of the time, can tubeless run @45 psi? as opposed to lower psi for off road.

I'll be switching to big apples or maxxis hookworms soon so any advice would be helpful.

Yes. I used to run 55-60 psi in Scwalbe MotoX and Big Ben's commuting thousands of miles
I now just run maxxis Exo dual compound DHF/SS all the time and run 45/50psi when commuting (also tubeless)

The slicks were about 1minute faster over a 10 mile commute. But they're fucking lethal on deisel/ice/frost

Hookworms aren't "tubeless ready" Ask me how I know... :)

Through the casing, actually.

In the end, with a vast amount of sealant, I got 1 to hold. Probably heavier than just adding a tube. They're heavy anyway.

They both have tubes in them now......

How do you find them, do they roll well enough.
Have you had many punctures with them.
I had a set of big apples on my previous Ebike, rode over everything with them and they never got a puncture.
