Hi, I am a new user. We are planning a trip to Frankfort Germany from Australia. We hope to cycle from Lyon through the South of France.

We will need to rent or buy batteries for our bikes in Frankfort. The batteries are Bosch PowerTube 625 Horizontal. Can anyone help with where we may be able to rent them.

I have had a quick Google but other than a couple of similar questions in other forums no sign of anyone renting batteries! Best price I found for a new Bosch PowerTube 625 Horizontal is Euro 529.95 or a compatible at approx. Euro 500 (German made) from an online shop but can be much higher elsewhere or from a bike shop Euro 700+.
Might well be cheaper and a lot less hassle to rent complete bikes here.

Another question, will trains in Europe allow bikes to travel fully assembled?

Yes. You may need to pre book.

We need to pack our e-bikes into boxes for the Flight, Thai airways. I could not find any maximum dimensions for the box size from the airways. Can anyone help?

Thai airlines can probably answer definitely, but if you go to your lbs and get a couple of bike boxes and pack the bits into them, you shouldn’t have any issues. Make sure you unbolt the mechs, and put spacers in the frame/forks to prevent compression damage, and let all the air out of forks and shocks.

Further to the above, for Germany (not sure about France) at the moment you can take an E-bike with battery on all Deutsch Bahn trains with a standard bike ticket. You only need to pre-book on the high speed intercity trains (IC & ICE) but for those it is a must as what space is available is typically booked up long in advance. Other trains, Regional (RE) Surburban (S-Bahn) and underground (U-Bahn) have a designated areas for bikes, just wheel them on and park up where you find a space.
Hope that helps.
