Hi Everyone,
I have been cycling since I was 10, I first started riding MTBs in 1988; my first MTB was a yellow Muddy Fox over the years I have had many different makes of MTBs, (and road bikes). My first E-MTB is a Focus JARIFA² 6.7 hard tail.
I am lucky to have lived in the mountains of Crete Greece since 2003, riding both road bike and MTB. With 300 days of sun per year on average I am able to ride most days.
In August 2021 and at the age of 68 years I had a heart attack out riding. After a heart operation and a stay in intensive care I was discharged and embarked on a recovery programme.
I was told the only way I would be cycling again is with an e-bike. Added to that; my current max heart rate, set by my cardiologist, is 130bpm. So, at the age of 70 years I decided to buy an E-MTB and take to the many mountain tracks.
I have to wear a heart rate monitor, when riding, and this allows me use the correct level of assistance to control my heart rate zones.
Here are the details of my last ride, with the route and climb profile and a photo of my E-MTB, showing the White Mountains in the background.
Distance 30k
Time riding 1hr 29mins
Off-road 55%
Paved 45%
Climb 680m
Time climbing 60mins
Maximum grade +21.6%
Descent 670m
Time descending 29mins
Minimum grade -16%
Cheers Alan
