This is my first post. I have ebike fever and have several ebikes already! I started out with a BBSHD kit on an old MTB and have progressed to a Frey AM1000. I also have two juiced bikes (RCS and HS2) and a Lectric XP. I just ordered some new wheels for the AM1000 with XD driver. My first set without a traditional HG hub. I'm still deciding on what cassette to get to go with the XT drivetrain. Maybe a chinesium 9-50T.

Well that was complete gobbledegook to me ..but welcome anyway ..?
Let's see some pics ..

Shimano HyperGlide freewheel-hub bodies use a 13 spline shaft to hold the cassette from spinning, whereas SRAM XD (& XDR) freehub bodies screw on. The XD series's shorter body leaves room for an 11th gear at the small end, especially popular with riders who don't want/have a front derailleur.

Shimano now does a MicroSpline freehub body (23 splines) to allow 11-speed cassettes as well.

Unfortunately, so far as I know, XD requires a solid cassette, while HG & MicroSpline allow changing out the top sprocket. With all the different sprocket materials & tooth counts available, I'd like to be able to change out just the largest rear sprocket.

Seems that thanks to companies like DT Swiss & others, one can swap from Shimano HG to Shimano MS or SRAM XD freehub, to match whichever gearset is to be used. Gearsets with 11 speeds will usually be MS or XD (or XDR=Road, which is longer; & I believe Campagnolo makes an 11-speed freehub too for some reason).

Notably, I don't know of any reason to replace a derailleur one likes, so long as it supports the range of gears one's new cassette contains.

I've had a hellish time getting an XD unscrewed before, & once watched a shop guy use a cheater-bar pipe for extra leverage, to do it. ... Not sure I like the idea of a screw-on under EMTB torque levels? Adapting to a MicroSpline made of steel (not aluminum), might be preferable to a screw-on freehub body, if I were swapping groupset parts on an EMTB; but that's only a suspicion, not experience talking!

There's a pretty good explanation here:

That's quite the list of ebikes!
I feel your username seems so familiar: Have I perhaps seen you around the r/Rifts subReddit?

Also, are you on a 40 tooth front chainring? If so, since larger gears are lower friction & less tooth strain, maybe go 10-52 tooth cassette, with a 44 or 46 tooth front! 9 tooth is *really* pushing it for high torque applications.

Yeah, it's a 40 tooth on the front. I did get a 9-50 tooth 12S CNC milled steel cassette simply because I couldn't find anything else in stock but it's been great so far. Running a Sram GX eagle derailleur and shifter and an X01 chain. Again only because that's what I could find in stock but I love how it's running. I probably have at least 500 miles on the drivetrain so far and no problems. I don't use the 9 tooth very much except riding a couple of miles from my house to MTB area on the bike path. I can hit about 31mph while pedaling my ass off with maximum pedal-assist on a slight downhill...lol

I use indypup on just about every forum I've ever been on and have since early 2000's but I'm not on the Rifts subreddit. ;)

This week I got an email that the Frey AM1000 we ordered has been assembled, tested, & sent to packing! I had never placed an order via Alibaba before, so Ivy & Cecilia's patience & help in getting this far, has been very much appreciated!

I feel very wary of running fewer teeth in the rear & will always choose to add teeth in the front if possible, instead. I hope it works out for you!

If 40 teeth up front feels like too high a cadence for me, I may try 42 or 44.

Frankly I can't wait to lay hands on this ebike & see which of our use cases it will cover best! (I suspect I won't need to do much to it, if at all, for the majority of our riding! A dropper seatpost sure seems like something I'll want!)
