Hello hello!

Looking to make my first e-bike purchase and am agonizing over the decision.

The bike will have the tough task of needing to cover everything from full downhill runs with 25ft+ jumps to long rides on paved trail. I’m a bmxer and require the ability to bunny hop, manual and jump the bike well on the trail. Low noise is very appealing for adventure rides.

I’m considering many options and front runners include the Specialized Turbo Levo Expert or Al comp which I would use as a platform to upgrade, the new YT Decoy Pro, and the Rocky Mountain Altitude.

I was blown away by the smoothness and silent operation of the Brose on the Specialized. It was very desirable to me. The balance and naturalness of the bike overall was very good as well. Ideally I would move to a 160mm Enduro fork up front. Concerns are price for a somewhat disappointing part spec, and being unsure about running 29er wheels. I think an upgraded Expert would be a slam dunk in all around performance for me but is really expensive.

The YT Pro has a near perfect part spec and I think would cover all my aggressive riding needs. My only concern is the Shimano Motor. I haven’t ridden a Shimano system and am worried the noise and feel will be a big detractor from the experience.

The Rocky Mountain Altitude is very appealing for it’s reported quiet, smooth motor (though apparently idler wheel noise can be high), geometry, looks, spec, wheel size and battery capacity. My main concerns here are weight of the alloy models, price of the lighter carbon, and the unremovable battery (I can imagine a lot of situations where that will be a big liability.

Will this decision process drive me crazy? Almost certainly! Lots of fun though too. I think shopping might be the funnest part.

Cheers!
