Hello everyone.
I’ve been on mountain bikes since 1992. Boy have things sure changed in 30 years.
On a 2018 Sworks turbo levo, plus a whole bunch of sweet analog bikes that don’t get ridden now. If I can turn my health around somewhat they will. I love my 2014 Epic World Cup, at 9.9kg it feels like it’s not subject to gravity…when I wheel it out of the workshop to make room.
Suffering from Multiple Sclerosis, but refusing to let that stop me.
I’ve a background in mechanical design, manufacturing and maintenance, and likewise in electronics.
About to open an ebike motor and battery repair business here in Melbourne, Australia. MS bought my corporate career to an end and I’ve realised life’s too short for corporate BS, one must follow their passions. So what better combination then mechanics, electronics and software on bikes that need a fresh approach with fairly new technology and many short comings.
Mid last decade I was posting times inside the top 100 on XC race tracks on strava riding 120-150km a week. 2020 and 2021 combined I rode a total of 378km. That gets you down. On the upside, my xx1 drive train spares stash at this rate will see me right for some time yet.
Working on mastering and overcoming the brose/spesh challenges first, before moving onto Bosch and Shimano.
My area of exploration and documentation atm is the CANBus communications on the 2018 Levo between battery, motor and handle bar module (yep, CANbus to the gen1 handle bar remote, 4 wires and three switches back to motor pcb would have been too easy).
Nice to meet everyone, hopefully I can contribute some high level discussions and insights.
