Hi all. :)

I’m Andrew, from Kent in the UK. Been riding motorbikes for 21 years and decided to change my hobby. My bikes are gone and I’m looking for advice on where to head with an eMTB.

My riding has given me good arms and a good core, my legs are fairly strong but I do have a slightly dodgy left knee (Volvo Estate hit it). My right wrist sometimes get upset (Volvo Estate drive over it). But otherwise I’m good :)

I’m thinking of a e bike because I’m a bit lazy but also until my fitness builds up I think it’ll help my knee.

I want to ride trails but also some (not crazy) downhill. I used to throw myself down anything on a £50 BMX but I don’t heal as fast now. I had a Haibike XDURO AllMtn 3 because... I can get one local for £3.2k. I thought choosing a motorbike was hard but choosing an ebike is another level of complex.

I’m five foot six, love speed, very confident on two wheels, and want to get out in the trails.

Help :)

I think I'm looking at either a Cube Stereo Hybrid 140 Pro or a Haibike Allmtn 3. Same price. Haibike looks better on paper but so do many things.

This world is a complex world.

Do different manufacturers offer different top speeds? I read Haibike stops at 15mph.

no, UK law requires that the motor ceases assistance at 25km/h. (and that the bike must be pedaled for the motor to assist, there is no throttle).

that's what defines an e-bike (officially a 'pedelec') and lets you ride it on bridleways.

a machine that breaks either of those is legally a motorcycle with all that brings.

So many good bikes out there.

Riding style, type of riding? Trails, massive big hits or just forestry singletrack. Etc?

That’s some stuff I need to figure out. But I’d say trails, and occasional chilled tracks across the country. I’m like speed and danger.

For a while yet I’m not interested in big jumps. I’m more into going downhill at speed on sweeping trails.

Specialised Levo won. I’ll add a dropper later. Now I need to work out how to transport the thing on my entirely impractical car without buying a new one.
