Hi. I'm James. 52 years old and (kind of) born again cyclist. I commuted by bike in London for years and am now picking cycling up again in the Hertfordshire countryside. Have been mostly on the roads (and on Zwift) but this week in the Lake District I spent a fantastic morning with John at lakedistrictbikes.com who took me out and scared/inspired the hell out of me with how much fun I could be having off-road on an EMTB.

So... any suggestions as to useful resources for choosing and buying your first EMTB gratefully received. It's a lot to spend and I really don't know where to start!

Welcome to the forum,

My advice is o demo as many bikes as you like the look of and go from there
Don't buy too cheap as that usally means buying twice
You can also upgrade the parts in the bike you do get over time, so don't worry about having to get the top specced model

My two pence worth is pick a mainstream brand and motor system. And buy from a recommended reputable local shop that will support you if any problems do arise without having to travel for miles or faff about shipping the bike
