A mountain biker for about 30 years on and off, but struggling more now with the hills due to age and asthma, I discovered the joys of the E-mtb last March.

At about the same time I discovered the EMTB Forum, and continue to be informed and entertained most days, not just by the vast collective knowledge and experience of its members, but also by the huge wit and comedic presences of the resident entertainers (and I have to make particular mention here of Zimmerframe and Beekeeper), who's posts are always able to brighten the gloomiest, wettest days here in Deepest Cumbria!

Before anybody asks, I attach photos of my Giant Trance SX E+0 Pro 2019 (Taken in Grizedale Forest).

Thanks Joe.

I have noticed on the forum over the last few weeks that you are a great fan of this bike, and keen to bring it to the attention of people who are asking for advise about new bikes.

I agree with you, and think it is a great buy for the price compared to many other brands, and would also thoroughly recommend it to new buyers, as I love the components, the feel of it, the way it rides, the power, and the mileage (I have found so far that it averages about 1.5% of battery per mile in mixed terrain).

John.

I've just come across your post while having a bit of a browse ..some great riding on the Furness Fells..it must be at least 5 years since I was over there ..
What caught my eye was the fact that you appear to have flat bars & bar ends on your bike !
Now thats a throw-back ..have you not found a decent stem/ riser bar combo yet...or are you ahead of the game and they are making a comeback ???

Not flat bars, they are the standard Giant ones that came with the bike.

The grips are Ergon GP2. I had them on my previous bike and they completely cured the forearm/hand problems I was having on long downhills, so I got some more for the E-bike.

The bar ends are really good for hand protection from the brambles, bracken, thistles etc which inhabit many of the overgrown tracks around here in the summer, and they also give protection in crashes.

The design of the grips means you only have to use a very light grip and in fact much of the time just resting your palms on them with one finger round the brake lever is enough for good control, so avoiding any problems caused by gripping too tightly!

Hi Nicho..
My mistake regarding the bars ..Ive had Ergon grips in the past and didn't particularly find them of any benefit ..but glad they are working for you..
I can't agree about bar ends though ..Im old school enough to have had them on previous bikes and having had crashes where they have dug into legs and ribs Im glad to be rid of them ..although they served a purpose in the past when bikes came with flat bars on steep climbs as something to hold onto while you were heaving your guts up ...
I've started a few rides from Torver and really like that area ..must get back when all of this madness is over ..?

I thought the same when I fitted my first pair, but after a lot of fiddling about and riding the same bit of track numerous times with a small adjustment each time, I discovered that you had to find EXACTLY the right angle for you. One degree out up or down and they feel no better than other grips, but get just the right position and they make a huge difference to your comfort.

The bar ends are plastic, well-rounded and quite short so are unlikely to do the sort of injury that the old long metal cut-off-pipe ones were famous for.
