Heckler won’t stay on

Had some problems with my Heckler again. Bike switches on but after a few seconds it switches off. If I remove and then refit the battery the bike switches itself on, stays on and motor gives assistance. Just doesn’t switch on or stay on via the satellite switch so I know generally things are ok with the bike - it just seems to be the switch playing up.

I removed the satellite switch, it’s a sealed unit and could not see any signs of damage externally. Also when switch is plugged in bike switches on, but goes off again after a few seconds.

Since an online shop had a replacement satellite switch for sale with a 70% discount I’ve ordered one so I cannot at least try a new switch to be sure. Any other ideas to resolve this?

I also removed the motor, as the flip chip fell out and ended up between the motor and the frame, and I noticed an unused plug / socket coming from the back of the battery connector. It’s a poor design as the pins inside were corroded. It’s the white plug / socket in the middle of the picture, any idea what it is?Thanks C62689B6-A256-460D-A3AD-ED1C129E16A4.jpeg

Bike is now switching on as normal. My theory now is that the main power connector (round plug towards centre of the picture) in which the wires are sealed with resin is allowing water in. Given its design, it then takes a long time to dry out. I will seal it with some heat shrink to see if that helps, or at least eliminates one other theory.

Your on/off switch has a battery that is recharged when your bike is running. If the battery goes dead, the symptom is exactly as you describe. If you get the bike to turn on and then you ride a little bit, your on/off battery is recharged. I suspect that the battery is degraded and will fail again if you leave the bike sitting for too long. I'm not sure if you can replace only the battery. If it's under warranty, Shimano will just send out a new switch.

Thanks, I’ve watched that video. He’s only 40 minutes from me so that’s an option if my latest fix doesn’t work. I’ve worked out it’s water getting in somewhere and causing the problem.

I’m not an expert but I had a little issue with one of the plugs on my bike a while ago, it wasn’t a fault and my bike was working fine but when I changed my old Purion display for Kiox, I had to remove one of the other plugs from the motor and I discovered that one of the terminals had a slight amount of surface corrosion like verdigris so I applied some dielectric grease to that plug and in fact I removed all of the plugs and applied some grease to those too, so far so good and no more verdigris, I’m not saying you should do the same but it could be an option but please get advice first 👍🙏

Looks like I've finally fixed this!!! It appears water was getting in to the top of the connector that links the battery to the motor, wires enter this connector from the top and appear to be sealed in resin. However, I suspected water was getting in to the connector somehow and then the powering on problem I was experiencing existed until everything had dried out. After a few days everything would be Ok again so I could narrow it down toa few things that happened immediately before the problem reappears.

I have now sealed the connector with the some heat shrink and tested it today with success.
