Hi all, newbie in eMTBs from Overijse, Belgium here.
I'm roadbiking since 2014 and started mountainbiking only in 2021. I didn't like MTB when I started cycling in 2014 as I thought it is too complicated. Certainly after I rented an MTB in Scotland together with a friend. I had brought my shoes for clickpedals but the rental didn't have SPD on it, only normal pedals. So, trying to stay on the pedals was a challenge. On a technical rocky descent I slipped of the pedals and ended with my balls on the toptube. Very painful... So, no MTB for me.
However, covid struck and I started to like MTB more and more for which I used my trekking bike (semi-MTB). With this bike I couldn't get through the really muddy parts and bought a second hand fully, a Trek Fuel EX 8 29 XT in 2021. With this I also joined my MTB friends club to ride on Thursday evenings. Those guys are about 10-15 years younger . You can imagine that I had trouble following them uphill. When I was at a stage that I had to spend money on a new cassette, bearings and shock maintenance and my birthday was coming up, I went for an eMTB.
I don't like the big monsters with a 625 or 750 Wh battery, and after some reading I discovered the so called light-eMTBs. Since 1 month I'm in possession of a Scott Lumen eRide 910 with a 360 Wh/50Nm TQ battery.
