Rumours that the government will be offering grants that would knock a third off the price of a new ebike.

Whats killing me is the fact that I've just bought mine less than a month ago ...but would I have waited ?
Probably not..with demand outstripping supply already ..who knows how long it would be before I got the bike I wanted ..

I think it's up to a third off, so I expect there will be a cap on the grant you'd get, maybe £200 off a £600 bike...

As mentioned above, you probably won't be getting £3000 grants.

Report sugegsts £3000 grants, i presume that means a 3k bike not given upto 3k (offa 9k bike!). Im not familiar with how government grants work. Anyone shed any light how they are worded/work for electric cars or charger installs etc. ???

Dont get your hopes up, the document that all those articles are based on is here

The only section that specifically mentions grants is in relation to e cargo bikes.

The bit that has set the cycling websites off is this bit on page 39

"We will establish a national e-bike support programme, which could include loans, subsidies, or other financial incentives, using the learning from other schemes in the UK and abroad for e-bikes, adapted e-bikes and other e-vehicles. "

So - pretty light on detail, and lots of vagueness.

That's not bad if that means up to £1k off a new bike, probably not as simple as that though, as post above suggests.

My employer has just upped the limit on the Cycle2Work scheme to £3150.
Paying back through salary sacrifice scheme means benefit as a 40% tax payer is great.
New road bike incoming :D

We can get ebikes on the 'green commute initiative'. The limit is 2.5k though, and through one supplier who only has very basic bikes at full rrp. So even the basic commute bikes are pretty junk.

Nope. Did you read the Government paper? Or Mteam's post?
We will establish a national electrically-assisted bike support programme Electrically-assisted bikes, or e-bikes, help you pedal using a small motor, powered by a battery which can be charged from a normal household socket. No licence, equipment or insurance is needed to ride one. They are particularly useful for people who, for example, need to ride in business clothes without breaking sweat, or to ride up hills, or to travel long distances, who are older or less fit, or who are otherwise put off by the physical effort of an ordinary bike. As such, they could be hugely important in our goal of bringing non- traditional groups to cycling including older and disabled people. We will establish a national e-bike support programme, which could include loans, subsidies, or other financial incentives, using the learning from other schemes in the UK and abroad for e-bikes, adapted e-bikes and other e-vehicles
