Glue or Glueless

Had my first puncture this weekend after years of puncture free riding. I fitted a spare tube that I always carry in my bag, so all is good again. But the glue has dried out on my old puncture repair kit, so decided to order a new kit. Now there seems to be Glued or Ready Glued patches, anyone got experience of these or any recommendations.

The tube of liquid for use with puncture repair patches isn't glue it's Vulcanising solution. For want of a better description it chemically "melts" the repair patch to the butyl of the tube and if used properly is a far superior repair to the more convenient quick fix press on patches.
So the two ultimately fill different roles.

I’ve been using the Lezyne stick on patches for about 7 years now on both mine and others bikes (I’m the go-to flat fixer around here!). Not had one fail yet. Just easy to use and tiny to carry - I even keep a couple in my wallet in case I see a cyclist in trouble when I’m out.

After several years, the glue on the stick-on patches dries out to what looks like the consistency of sugar. So, if like me you seldom need to use them, replace them every year and don't get stranded.

..I would think that I have had more than my moneys worth out of an inner tube and just change it !😂
I suspect that I may have not made myself clear. I keep a set of patches in my pack just in case the spare inner tube that I seldom use gets a puncture when I do use it. Are you with me? So the patches are hardly ever likely to be used. That means that they go "off" in my pack and are useless when I actually need them. Hence my recco to replace them on a regular basis.
