HI All,

My gears have started to play up. I can shift from the smallest cog to the tallest cog seamlessly, try to shift back down and it wont have it. The shifter will click but the derailleur stays where it is. if i give it a little pull to start it off it will them shift seamlessly all the way back to the smallest cog. Have any of you come across this?

Sounds like the inner cable is getting stuck in the outer cable somewhere, try squirting some WD40 (or something) into the inner cable by the derailleur as its likely to be gunk in that end - good luck

My understanding is that even lube, and WD40 isn't a lube (WD - water dispersant, get it?) can damage the gear outer lining. Having followed Zimmer's advice, and changed the inner and outer as necessary, the next thing to look at might be the cassette. I had a similar issue, did all the above and checked derailleur alignment and finally changed it, 11 SPD NX to SLX - sorted. Thinking about it, if the outer has a kink at the end, and is long enough, just trim it - happened to me a couple of times.

Deffo an inner wire catching on the outer cable.

I had this after fitting brand new inner and outers. Turned out that I had stood on the inner during assembly and kinked it. It acted a bit like a ratchet, straightened out when shifting up the gears with my strong thumb, but kinked and jammed when going down the gears with only the mech spring pressure.
