Thinking of getting a garmin to help on planning my rides.
Looked at the garmin 520 plus and 820.
Which of the two would you all recommend.

If you need the navigation part I would go for the 820 as it got a bigger screen and more navigation functions. I got the 1030 and are super happy.

Screens on 520 plus & 820 are the same size, where they differ is the 820 has a touch screen, the 520 plus does not. Main functional differences are in navigation, both do turn by turn, but the 820 can handle on-device planning, the 520 plus cannot. My personal opinion is that Garmin launched the 520 plus as a stopgap until the 530 & 830 were released and to fend off Wahoo handing them their arse with their units.

I also have a 1030 and am pleased with it, although previously I have had 520 & 820. I wouldn’t buy either of those now as they’re a few years old now and will most likely not be receiving many more software updates, the 530 or 830 are what I’d be looking at, or the 1030 of course if budget allows.

820 has a bad touchscreen. i recommend the 520 good value. if you want maps or mtb metrics buy the 530, 830 or 1030. all are tested on dcrainmaker.com
