Fox Float X2 cavitation - anyone else?

Looks like my nearly new shock is going back to Fox to sort out the cavitation/slurping noise. Looking online seems a seal needs replacing. My LBS said they service the Fox shocks on all new bikes going out as they are leaving the factory sub par. I was reluctant to go Fox after years of faultless SRAM, great when working but overly complex and temperamental by comparison.

In the mean time its back on the analogue!

I am in the process of doing exactly the same thing. 2021 Fox X2 Performance Elite that I rode for 3 hours that lost all compression dampening, started squelching, no more lock out and the next morning leaked a heap of oil out of it. 4 weeks into my "warranty" process and I will be selling it the moment its back in my hands and order a new super deluxe ultimate to replace it.

So disappointing after thinking the X2 was the best thing out there to have it fail instantly :(

Fox X2 is pretty much the most unreliable shock on the market right now, both of my local suspension shops are flooded with broken X2 to service. However some reviews will skip that part and tell you it's the best thing out there...

I'm riding a Super Deluxe Ultimate along with some friends and we never had a single issue, Rockshox stuff is super reliable and their 2023 line up is about to take that little performance edge Fox had over them while adding some new features (Buttercups, hydraulic bottom out and more adjustability on the shocks).

Finally got my X2 back from Fox warranty after 4 weeks, it had:

-Full service
-Damper shaft
-Outside housing
-Bearings
-Full seal kit

Shaft was bent / deformed which caused all the damage after 2 small rides.

Let's hope it lasts a lot longer this time!

Yup absolutely terrible service by Fox in Australia. The shop put a boot up them multiple times then magically it was done yesterday and overnighted back to me.

Was not a very good warranty process that is for sure, I get that manufacturers get busy but once you tell a client 4 times that it will be looked at on a certain day and its not then another week passes so you check in and they push it back another week over and over then my patience starts to run a bit thin.

Yep my 2022 reign had 100klm on it and shock was done.
My 2020 reign the x2 was flawless.
3 week holiday at fox au and she’s back working like it should
I had damper shaft
And all seals
Same as described above

I’m in the process of trying to get this fixed under warranty right now. Mine is squelching like crazy after 6 months and not much use (second bike).

So far the shop I bought the bike from doesn’t seem to want to help because they are in a different country, the importer won’t deal with me directly and the shop I tried to use to facilitate the warranty told me it was a flawed shock and offers me an Ohlins.

I have now found a shop that will help me pursue a warranty fix without completely taking my trousers down.

I’m hoping that there is a genuine fault that can be fixed and prevents this happening again in such a short period of time.

Good to hear that some people have had positive experience regarding warranty fixes

Mine was cavitating too, was blowing through the travel as well. Got it serviced with my local specialist rather than faff around with the warranty. £120 later it’s sweet as a nut.
Fingers crossed it stays that way until the next annual service.

2022 X2 on Reign e+1.

The X2 Performance that came in my Megawatt Elite is with Fox right now. Needs a new outer casing and shaft apparently; won’t get it back until end of the month!
Although, they did say it’s getting upgraded parts, so perhaps Fox have acknowledged how fragile the shock is and are addressing it? Mines only about 6 months old.

Mine was sent in for a service (to TF Tuned) and they phoned me telling me there was scoring on the inside of the air can and that some grit had also got caught between the seal and shaft and caused a minor full stroke length scratch. Hard to see, but can feel it with your finger nail. I'd only done about 300 miles on the bike and it was only just over a year old.

Giant have sent it to Fox for repair/replacement. When I get it back it's going straight on ebay. I've now moved to a coil spring.
