I have the Grip and Grip 2 dampers and I am finding the Grip damper feels better than the Grip 2 out of the box. I am running them both at the recommend factory settings for my weight and PSI but I did have to back off the HSR 2 clicks on the Grip 2. I know the Grip 2 is more adjustable and will take some work to get right but man the Grip was so just set and forget and rides really well and felt more plush on the big hits.

Interesting - I found the opposite. My advice with Grip 2 and (X2 on the back) is to run nearly fully open compression circuits. Maybe 1-3 clicks of each MAX. Feeling on big hits may be more related to how many air spacers you have in (thus changing the spring curve). If it's the same fork and you're just swapping dampers, try my suggestion and go with 2 clicks LSC and 2 clicks HSC.

Tried your suggestions and it was much better, I also had to speed up the high speed rebound and it’s now a bit better then the Grip. I need to do a little more bracketing to get it just right as I was a second slower on a down hill run I love but I think this is also due to 170mm vs 160mm. The bike is much more balanced at 160mm but it was faster and more stable at 170mm, there is just not enough downhill where I ride the most to give up the balance.

I am waiting for a Float X2 to come in stock but in the meantime I was able to get a Float DPX2 and installed it tonight. What a difference from the stock Rock Shox, the bike feels much more balanced front and back now. Before the front felt great with the 38 but the back was just slamming through things. Now it's much more controlled and bottomless feeling.

Just wait until the X2 arrives! Same advice as with the 38 Grip 2 - start with very little compression damping (1-2 clicks from wide open), and set sag and rebound to spec (sag on the high side of the range - 30%).

I noticed even on the X2 I had to back off the compression and the 30% is actually a little higher as you say.

The waiting on availability is torture on my patience, took 3 months for the 38 and the DPX2, 3 weeks for a new dropper (shipped today), still waiting on the X2, and my Wife's Levo still hasn't shipped.

My LBS fitted the 38s (160 with 44 offset) a week ago in direct replacment for 36's with the same travel and offset. I wasnt expecting to even notice much difference as I had spent a few weeks (6 rides) setting those up (with ShockWiz) and they felt good. I set the 38's up with stock settings from the Fox manual and fitted the ShockWiz again. The difference was noticeable immediately, the small bumb sensitivity was much better than the previous 36's. they absorbed every hit, big or small with control and plushness more like a motocross fork. The first MTB forks I have ridden on that were even comparable. Definately increased confidence with the added stiffness too. I set a number of Strava Pb's first time out on them, so thats the true test hey!? Checking the ShockWiz data when I got back showed the settings were close to perfect with only a couple of clicks softer on low and high speed compression (next ride they were perfect) I am on an XL Turbo Levo and I am 192cm tall and 98kg. Will they change your life? Probably not, will they let you go harder for longer, I think so. Thats what E-bikes are all about arent they?

Is there any specs wheve they compare the 38 to the 36 E-Bike model?
All the comparisons i can find are against the std 36 not the e-bike 36?

Hi all!
I write here because I am very interested in updating my 2019 comp carbon Levo with the brand new FOX 38 fork. I think I worth it: XL rider wanting to ride faster through rocky tracks in Spanish Pyrenees.
I firstly felt in love with pistachio colour (I blame it to Specialized Youtube video) but local dealer told me there are almost impossible to manage. Ok, I’ll get the stunning-classic orange. Surprisingly, I found that I SHOULD get the e-bike version of FOX 38 and it’s only in black colour. Ok, performance is the most important .
After that, I realise FOX38 e-bike is only in 44 offset version (Original Turbo Levo is 51) and 180mm travel. I should spend almost 100€ more to change it into 160mm.
On the other hand, FOX36 e-bike version is cheaper and it comes with 51 offset and 160mm (same black colour too)
Now I am really thinking about forgetting 38’s version. 36 seems more easy to fit in my bike and also stunning. Am I right?

I spoke with Fox about the difference with the 38 of e-bike vs non-ebike version. They told me the chassis is the same only the damper tunning is different. I went with the standard 38 since getting the e-bike version wasn't possible at that time. I was worried about the 44mm offset but to be honest I really don't feel a difference. I did end up changing the travel from 170mm to 160mm to get the balance better as it tended to shift the weight more to the back wheel than I like for trail riding.

That’s dead on with what I had to do from stock. 2 clicks on low and 3 on high and it feels perfect. The fox 38 has really impressed me. I just purchased the Öhlins DH38 M2 for my other bike and am wondering if it’ll be as good.

What year 36 shocks are you wanting to compare? The 36 has a different air system so you won’t get the same small bump sensitivity. Which is what is really impressive about the 38.

Today I’ll be testing the 38 on a DH trail. So far it’s been incredible for stiffness and feeling like it’s apart of the bike.
Thanks for your reply, I was more intrested in the stiffness difference. I have seen the stats compared to std 36, how much stiffer is a e-bike 36 than a non e-bike.
I understand the 38 has a different damper system.

Cheers

get the normal 38 version. No neeed for the 38-e.

I have the 38 -160 travel and 44 rake. Perfect.
i made a long research on how changing the rake from 51 to 44 will affect me... at the end it’s really no problem at all. 44 suites me very good.

remember there is also black option

You’re welcome, I was looking for the service instructions for changing the air shaft and notice they had a write up on the fender and thought why the heck do you need instructions for that but was curious and read it. Not soon after I saw your post and thought this is exactly why they did a write up.

You find the instructions for the air shaft swap anywhere?
I’ve got a Fox 38 170mm travel 44mm offset coming and want to install it on my 2020 Levo (base model)
Thanks for any help or advice.
Bert

Why tho? My 36 factory Grip2 is perfect, I even think it's overkill for most of the riders. (it's nice to have it tho...)
