A newbie question I’m sure, but no doubt the collective will Provide enlightenmen.

looking to upgrade my current 140mm travel forks to a 160mm or 170mm alternative. A few questions:

1. do I have to buy a fork that is specifically for use with my 29” wheel? Reason for asking is my wife’s bike has some awesome 160mm forks but hers is a 27.5” wheel. I was thinking of swapping them over but not sure if they will fit.
2. can I use my existing calliper mount which is compatible with my current forks and rotor Or will I need a replacement mount, if so which one do I need for my set up?

Cheers

Forks are specific to 29 or 27.5 wheels and hub size 100mm or 110mm ( boost). Any fork will specify the range of rotor size it will accept with the lowest size a direct fit without adaptor and other sizes between that and its max with the appropriate adaptor. As others have said youf best course of action would be to make your existing fork longer travel. You will get more specific advice if you say what bike you have and what fork it has fitted. Going from 140 to 170 is pretty extreme!!
