So during a general clean/maintenance job I thought I’d whip out the motor.
Its very easy to remove, two T40 screws, unhook the chain and lift out.
The important thing here is to take note of the O ring seal between the two halves of the connector. When lifting out the motor it’s a lottery where the O ring goes. It either stays on the bike, stays on the motor or just drops on the floor.
Whilst cleaning it seems like a good plan to cover the connectors with tape.
I took the opportunity to tidy up the wiring with a few cable ties. I’m not overly impressed with the wiring harness on these bikes, they just don’t look man enough for what is quite a harsh environment. My opinion obviously, I’m sure Haibike have done their homework.
I added a couple of cable ties to secure the e-connect box loom to the cover. This bit of kit has never worked so it may seem pointless. That said I’d bet the house on the bike stopping dead if any of those cores broke!
There isn’t a great deal of clearance between the motor casing and the frame moulding so any additional cable ties need to be checked for clearance when refitting the motor. Just make sure the motor seats down on its mounts without forcing it.
When replacing the motor be careful to make sure the O-ring stays in place. I added a smear of waterproof grease just to hold it in place.
When refitting the battery I gave the inside of the frame tube a good clean and spray with ptfe lube. Makes sliding the battery in much slicker.
