The other day i was riding with two bars left on the display, in eco. Came to a steep hill put it into boost and within a few pedal strokes the display showed no bars and cut assist off completely. This has been the first time i have lost power.
Do others with the shimano e8000 system get red bar then a flashing red bar before cut off?
Do others get forced into eco mode when battery is critically low?
I would not normally run with my battery
that low. The cold weather here at the moment is probably playing a part too.

Yes, yes & yes.

My Jam2 runs down ok through all the bars as expected last bar red, then red flashing and drops to eco only.
Since the inbuilt battery was replaced recently it works fine on the inbuilt battery but the TEC pack runs down ok to 3 bars then drops to one red for a bit then just turns off. Will be dropping it into the dealer this week to find out what’s up.

Mine did exactly that the other day too. A few days earlier, I’d been riding on the trails and there’s a long uphill near the end where I put it in boost. After this long uphill, the display went from 2 or 3 bars to 1 bar red. But when I completed the ride and turned the bike off and on again, it then showed 2 bars again and a range of about 10Km.

A couple of days later I went for a quick ride (without having charged the battery). All was fine and it was showing 2 bars until I hit a hill and put it in boost. Then the battery just died. No power at all.

It seems boost will drain the battery quickly. Lithium batteries have a relaxation effect where the voltage will drop after a heavy sustained load and then recover again after resting a while. That explains what happened after my first ride but it seems the 2 bars wasn’t in fact 2 bars and putting the bike in boost on the second ride just killed it.

Bit of a worry really as I don’t trust the range reading anymore. This has happened to me twice. The battery is about 1 year old and I’ve done about 1300 Kms. I’ve always been careful to store the battery in a partially discharged state.

if i look at the range when it's on 2 bars it'll say something like 15kms and then it suddenly cuts out and when i turn it back on it's red. crappy system
