Today is the first day out on my newly acquired COMMENCAL Meta Power, we did 18 miles with 2,040ft of climbing (28.9km & 620m), we started out with what I imagine is 4.5 bars of battery and came back with 3 bars left. I spent 99% of the time in ecomode which felt like an absolutely perfect amount of assist whilst still requiring a good workout!

To begin with I was a little hesitant I had made the right decision buying an e-bike, that forking out over double the price of the next most expensive bike I have ever bought was the right thing to do. Can this bike really bring that much more fun and satisfaction over my unassisted bikes I have had over the years, can it be double as much fun to justify the price tag?

Well… without any reservation I can say it is simply amazing, I am hooked after just one ride and we’re already planning loads more rides out to places that we would otherwise think twice about going. I absolutely hate climbing and take no enjoyment from it what so ever, I only grind away to get to the DH sections but with this bike I now take enjoyment from every aspect of the ride. Let me say it again, the WHOLE ride is simply awesome fun. My legs still burn but I am carrying enough speed up the hills to enjoy them and the bike turns them into a technical challenge that I took no fun from before. I would say I’ve not been this excited or had this much fun since I bought my first full suspension bike all those years ago, emtb’s have truly reinvigorated my love for the sport and have opened up whole other avenues to explore.

I bought the Commencal meta power 27 and I am over the moon with it, the bike is spec’d well and the coil shock is super smooth. I went with a medium, and at 6ft Commencal regard as slightly too small for my height, however I have always been into smaller bikes that are a bit more chuckable. The size feels absolutely spot on along with the geo, super slack enduro bikes are a pain in the ass to ride around our tight trails and I am glad to get back onto something that is a bit more trail orientated. It has slightly less travel than my previous bike but I think the high volume 2.6 tyres do a good job that I can’t actually notice the difference. The grip these bigger tyres offer is also superb. I was a little worried about the weight of the bike at 23kg, this is a huge amount of extra heft to throw around but you hardly notice it that I would consider it a small price to pay for the extra abilities the bike brings to the table. The only time I really wanted a lighter bike was trying to bunny hop over obstacles, you just have to try harder! Despite this, the extra weight does bring a big benefit to suspension performance, the weight actually dampens down the chatter getting through to your hands and feet making for a more comfortable, and confidence inspiring ride.

If you are still on the bench, I would say just go for it and take the plunge, any e-bike will be a pleasure to ride and I imagine whatever model I purchased I would feel the same way as I do right now!

Next step is to research tubeless to avoid getting any more punctures, I’ve had to change a number of tubes recently and it’s becoming a pain in the ass!

Here is a picture of the bike at the end of our ride, puncture and all! I had an absolutely blast today and am looking forward to the evening rides now the days are getting longer ?

Great bike and first ride report :) I was exactly like you were I was on a normal mountain bike and could get up any hills etc and my wife who has a Haibike kept saying come on get one and I resisted until recently and I thought sod it so I bought a 2019 Focus Jam 2 Plus with the TEC pack and even though I have only been out 4/5 times I am totally hooked :)

My wife Linda had to do some work this morning for a deadline so I went out from home and did 22 miles this morning and it was fantastic and as you said the hills now are just great fun aren't they!

I have the Shimano motor and eco is perfect for my use but I do use trail when needed and boost when I want to laugh :)

Nice choice, the Focus Jam2 looks really slick, good frame design and you have tons of space for extra's. I certainly like the idea of the TEC packs to extend range or simply swap in a water bottle if you don't fancy taking a pack that day.

My GF has said an e-bike is in her future, until then i'll help give her a tow and carry all the extra's on days out. To be fair she has always been super quick up the hills which is one of the reasons why I bought an e-bike, I was always the one holding us back on the climbs! She was a bit skeptical at first and wasn't really interested in them, but having a go on mine has definitely opened her eyes about what the future holds! It's now not a case of if but when she is going to get one! Bless!

So today i've placed an order for some tubeless valve, sealant, some extra tools and new gloves that hopefully do not have holes in :)

Roll on the next ride day!

Absolutely, I was originally looking at their more price conscious offerings but by the time I added up the cost of the charger damper upgrades and a coil I thought I may as well spend the extra and go for the top model, I thought why not treat myself :D

So pleased I did though, the coil is absolutely fantastic, it feels so much better than my Fox DPX2 I have on the transition! I am tempted to upgrade the Lyriks to a coil to try and make the bike as maintenance free as possible.
