Hello fellow forum members!
I’ve moved on from HT, starting with a Polygon, then switching to Commencal, then a full "squishy" and now I’m at the point where I want to build my own E-MTB. I’m considering a model from the other side of the world
– specifically, the Dengfu E10 or E82.
I’d like to share my findings and ask for advice on the best place to source all the parts. From what I’ve read, the E82 is simply a younger sibling of the E10, offering better geometry, so the choice seems pretty straightforward, especially since the price difference for such a setup is almost negligible. As for the motor, I’m leaning towards the Bafang M510 with a 1014 Wh battery, as it’s quiet and efficient and is best suited for my application - I don’t need anything more I`m definitely not a super duper shreader, I`m more of a long distance lesiure rider and I want to be able to do 100/200km trips with ease through forests / single tracks etc. From what I’ve seen, people are managing to do 100 km with the 1014wh/510 setup and still have plenty of battery left. If needed, I can always look for a bigger battery or maybe have one custom built, but the E10 only supports 840 Wh, while the E82 can take batteries of 1000 Wh and larger, which still gives me more capacity for only a small price difference and that`s why I`m leqaning towards the E82...
Now, let’s talk about part sourcing, from Alibaba. I received two quotes – one for the M10 and one for the M82. For the M10 (frame, motor, and battery), the total is $2018-ish , including DDP shipping ( since I`m in Poland, this is super important since the VAT and Customs charges on good From China can be horrendous ) , while the M82 comes to around $2064. The decision seems pretty straightforward since the E82 with the M510 motor, full wiring, a bigger battery, and paint comes at the same price and I`m not even mentioning the better geo, newver model of the frame etc (the only difference ordering from Alibaba and the shop I was looking at is the lack of fancy colors like on the manufacturers catalog, but that's a minor detail since I will be going with a very simple paint color anyway ).
I also got a direct quote from the manufacturer for the E10: frame, motor, paint, and shipping (I think the shipping is included as the mesasge from the rep wasn`t very clear
) – the cost is $2150, plus $85 for paint and a 4.2% PayPal fee, which brings the total to $2327. I estimate that the price of the E82 will go up to around $2450, and I don`t really understand the price difference since from both sources I`m getting the same thing with warranty ( well as good as warranty on Chinese parts can be.... )
When it comes to Alibaba, I checked out and contacted a store with a 4.8 rating, and the product itself ( frame kit ) has a 5.0 rating from users - sure it only has around 5 reviews but so does the Dengfu store, so it seems like a reliable place to order from. With the price difference, I could get the rear suspension, as it’s the only part I still need. The rest of the components I already have from my HT – FR541 rims, SLX 7120 brakes with 203mm SM-RT86 Rotors, 11s Deore drivetrain, a decent cockpit, and a Pike Ultimate 160mm fork. I’ll probably sell off some unnecessary parts, which could help save a bit of extra cash which would bring the total price down even more.
To all the users here – what would you do in my situation? Where would you order from, and maybe you have some alternative suggestions? I’m confident about the brand and don’t want to change it, as it’s well-known and highly regarded. I’m just unsure where to order to avoid getting a dud and not overpaying.
Thanks in advance for your help!
