That's a fun nickname for North Carolina, USA. Old fart here (52.5k miles) looking to purchase my first emtb. I've ridden an 'acoustic' mtb (Salsa El Mariachi) for just over a year, and have many years riding dual sport motorbikes including out west in California. Considering my age and physical condition, time constraints, etc., I think an emtb will be the sweet spot for me. Plus it opens up lots of riding location options for me, including some awesome single track near my home that I couldn't access on a motorbike. Treks and Specialized seem to be the most popular bikes in my area, and I'm currently eyeing the Trail 7. I look forward to being a part of this community and rapidly developing sport.

Emtb’ing definitely opens a lot of doors. But I think I may have overdone it…physically and monetarily.

Whew man, I hear ya on both...especially the monetary part. I'm still in sticker shock at what these things cost. I know you can't compare apples and oranges with emtbs and dual sport motos, but dang. You can get a brand new or lightly used dual sport moto...that is also subject to supply chain and shipping issues, includes high tech like traction control and ride modes, fancy fuel injection controls, user computer screen interface, and lots of parts and systems for as much or even less than some of these high-end emtbs go for. And they'll last a lot longer before you have to replace motors or engine top ends or wore out parts. Again, I understand the difference and their application is somewhat different, and I know that's just how it is and I'll bite that bullet, but whew doggie it's an adjustment!

When someone ask me how much $$$$$ my bike cost…I try to switch the conversation to the weather. Sometimes it works. Knowing first-aid helps when they faint or pass out. 😳
