picked up 1st ebike recently (trek rail). not know how much torque the motor produces, i proceeded up one of my towns steepest hills at 25km/h motor limit. 100m past the top of the hill, the chain snapped in half. i repaired chain but chain is slipping off when i change to the smaller cog gears (1x12 speed), as in 6 and up! i looked at drive train and all looks ok. only thing i can see is derailer has slightest bend. my question is: snapping a chain at high torque would that bend things? i am over 100kg and hard on gear. am i up for a new groupset. its currently deore

I'm guessing something bent ur derailleur causing chain to snap . or something got stuck in it . Anyways photos will help diagnose probs . Glad ur enjoying ur new bike . Rails are pretty cool bikes . I've had a Levo for a few years and loving it still . Get that bike fixed and keep racking up the miles .

cheers for reply. yeh was brand new on pavement. ultra steep hill / heavy rider / max torque = weakest link goes, which must of been deraileur then chain. all good. just a learning curve of owning my 1st ebike. the more you ride, the more you understand when you can push motor or go easy. just a learning curve. thanks legend
