E020 stuck on steps screen

Went for a ride out the other night, when I turned it on it kept trying to turn on then cutting out straight away, eventually got it on at about the 5th attempt.

Went out for a pedal, did a couple of decent climbs all worked ok then got to a fast bit of single track and got an e020 error, bike wouldn’t turn off or anything, rode the bike home.

When I got back home I disconnected the battery and reconnected it to try and reset the bike, it is now stuck on ‘steps’ startup screen completely unresponsive…. Every time I re-connect the battery it goes straight to the steps screen without me even turning it on.

Have tried leaving disconnected for 24 hours, cleaned battery terminals, cleaned terminals at the back of the display.

Help please!!

Update…. The battery is the issue, I’m not getting much joy on here but any help would be greatly appreciated. Put my friends Decoy battery in my bike and all is working fine.

Am I looking at a new battery?

Hi I am new here - however, I decided to join " EMTBForums" to share my experiences....

My "little duck" refused to serve me after washing.
the screen was stuck on the message "shimano steps" and I could not do anything to start the bike system.
I cleaned and dried the contacts - no effect,
I connected the bike to the shimano system to view the stored errors.... all were E02000 "communication error between battery and drive unit"
I started looking for the cause of the error in the electrical harness....
current conduction was okay, while I detected anomalies on one of the communication cables in the form of increased resistance....
I pulled the cover off the electrical harness and found that the black cable had melted the cover slightly.... which affected the communication wire.... The lack of communication between the battery and the engine turned out to be true.
to check, I connected with the help of other cables the drive unit with the battery - system works....

I am currently waiting for a new electrical harness from YT :D

be vigilant and check the recorded errors of the system

:)

Forgot to update this….. so it was the battery, bike was three months (ish) out of warranty so couldnt get a replacement on warranty claim but YT UK did agree to replace the battery for ‘free’ if i got the bike serviced by them. The service cost around £600 if memory serves me correct.

Obviously the perfect outcome would have been if they just replaced the battery no questions asked but they were under no obligation to so fair play, they replaced all pivot bearings, chain, sprocket, chainring, brake discs and pads, headset bearings, wheel bearings… it felt like a new bike when i got it back!

A couple of mates reckon i was robbed blind but i think considering i got a new battery it was ok. Communication etc was spot on from them and it was like a week turnaround.

Id buy another YT, they are class bikes and my experience with YT UK was pretty sound!

On that note…. When is a new decoy coming out?!
