Drive side end cap compatibility

I will be changing from sram eagle to shimano 11 speed when my eagle cassette is done...at 5000 miles it’s still working from running 3 waxed chains?!

Can anyone tell me if the drive side axle end cap (12mm shaft, boost) on the sram cassette will fit the Shimano 11 speed I’m going to fit? I suspect not having found what looks like the right part on the trek web site....but to be sure before I spend the £12.

I wonder if the eagle shifter will also work, obviously with an empty click at one end? I would be looking for a shimano derailleur as well to shorten the cage length.....although would the sram derailleur work?

Any pointers welcome thanks.

Hey Crossroad Rail,

If you running a Bontrager rapid drive hub you should be good for your spacer, done multiple upgrades from an 11-speed to a 12-speed, so it would be backward compatible.

The shifter/ rear derailleur, which you suggested won't work (one free click).
A mix-match option would be an 11-speed shifter and a 12 speed rear derailleur. The pull ratio for the rear derailleurs (Shimano/Sram) is the same but the cable pull of the shifters is different on Shimano/ SRAM 11 and 12 speed. I have seen others running an 11-speed shifter and cassette with an XT 12-speed derailleur.

NOTE; the rear cassette might be an issue for you as it will depend on what you have fitted.
If you have an NX rear cassette you will run an HG 9/10 speed body.
If you have a GX/X01/XX1 cassette you are running a Sram XD body.
The Shimano 11 speed you suggested would need to be run on an HG 9/10 speed body.
If you have the GX/XO1/XX1 you could look into getting an SRAM 11-speed cassette instead, without the need to replace your freehub.

Good luck Frankensteining ;-)

Many thanks L Q....you have saved me much trawling.
My brother gave me a hub which certainly looks like a sram XD? .....the cassette once fitted comes away from the wheel with the drive pawls and bearings In one bit..... I’ve fitted the shimano 11 speed cassette to it loosely, it looks ok?

Shifter and derailleur to buy as my GX has had to be bodged some due to either not being able to get spares or the obscene prices.

thanks again.
