Thinking outside the regular ebike brand box.
Compared to alot of the aluminium Chinese frame designs and geometry Deng Fu are supplying a full carbon frameset for the Bafang M600 motor and battery.

Trail testing begins today so we’ll see how well this compares to the Seroxat Aluminium ebike I built and tested in 2020 using the M600 setup.

Time will tell with the M600 setup and changing the internal reduction motor gear with the Luna cycles nylon version and uploading the Luna firmware via their BESST service tool has improved the sensitivity from torque sensor and brought the noise level down dramatically.

Great 1st ride with mode 3 of the 5 being the most suitable when climbing or technical elements. Rode through 6 inch beach pebble gravel for 1 mile which didn’t stop the bike at all.
Shakedown ride complete, time to hit local woods test loop to get an idea on battery range as it has 48v 14.5ah (696wh).

Great ride today. In these cold, muddy conditions the bike performed faultlessly. No electrical gremlins or issues with the frame. Mostly XC with a few jumps and rock garden trials.

Just different frames I think. The M500 and M600 both use the same mountings, though the M600 is a slightly wider motor.

Haibike FLYON motor also has 120 Nm....and it's still too much for most use cases.

If you were able to transfer most of your current components it would be around £2500

Loaded the Bafang firmware update and went for a ride through deep water and lots of mud. Faster than my Levo even in the dark with no lights?
I’m treating the bike terribly to prove it’s worth.
14.5 miles with 1300ft of climbing with average 16kph speed in mode 5 (Turbo)returning home with 30% battery.

I think a hand throttle would end me ever voluntarily getting out of breath again from pedaling. At that point pegs would prob give best stance and it has the power for that!! Kind of like a sur Ron but not as shitty looking.

Unfortunately outside the USA you cannot purchase a Luna X1.
Throttle option would definitely make it illegal and to be honest, the way the motor slowly ramps throttle input makes it a commuter/ road based option and burns battery really quickly as the motor asks for major current draw to match your request. The Bafang ultra 1500w has enough poke to allow use of a throttle alongside pedelec function and doesn’t chew up the battery.

Bike performed very well today. The torque is very smoothly amplified. Torque sensor within the M600 is less sensitive than the Ultra motor which reduces the ‘kick’ felt by riding the brose 2.1.

Mud, puddles and a few bogs I rode through didn’t spin up causing you to put a foot down in the sludge. Whether this is due to the plus tyres remains to be confirmed once the weather dries up.
Very happy to continue testing this ebike and when Bafang allow tuning of motor settings it could open doors to app compatibility and Bluetooth features.

As a long time DIY guy the Bafang name doesn't bother me as much as it might some. But I also know that the company has some teething issues with their mid drive products and factory weirdness like the fact they don't allow motor tuning out of the box. When I first saw the M600 three years ago I immediately started to dream up a bike with it and when the Luna came along I could have put down but still wasn't satisfied with if the motor was going to be reliable. Plus I am not after a CF bike quite frankly. But Trail Watts bike is sure nice and his input on the M600 as a whole is valuable for sure.

My main attraction is in fact the throttle feature along with a decent torque PAS. I don't use the throttle for much in the course of a ride but for when I do use it I find it handy especially for starting off and as a walk assist that is always ready to go and the cranks don't go round while using.

So now that the motor is getting some exposure there are some aluminum models coming, covid willing, model year 2020 and this is the one I have my eye on from Bikes Direct. Not the most up to date geo and mid level components but for under $3k its what you get and can upgrade later as necessary.

Thinking I might have to trim the throttle wire a little though, pet peeve of mine when companies post their bikes with spinnaker cables and housing.

Testing in spring time will decide quite a few factors regarding the Dengfu/ Bafang ebike.
I know it will hold up to welsh mountain trails so we shall see. I’ve abused the bike from the start including hose pipe washes and leaving the bike outdoors in freezing temperatures to push the envelope compared to California dry testing.

I have ridden so many different ebikes, some of which should be motorcycles and I would happily trade the ‘off the shelf’ brands for this.
Dengfu are sending me a complete box of frameset nuts/ bolts and including a rear pivot (shock linkage) for $60USD which is crazy compared to the big brands replacement parts.

Response by email from Dengfu has been through a 24hr window so alot better than British Gas with 72hr response?

I’ll try to do a spec sheet soon. Rob is running a 800wh and all comes down to the small things like wireless dropper/ archer wireless system, selection of bolts, headset etc

Yes please do a list with the parts,i am thinking of buying a bike for a test.How would you compare the motor m600 with Brose 2.1,Brose 1.3
Shimano and Bosch cx?
I am still thinking between m500 or m600.Personally have been ridden bosch cx, brose 1.3(kenevo) and shimano e8000.The 1.3 i think was the best with blevo settings on eco i was perfect max 560watts.

I have an XC bike which will be a donor for some components including 1 x 11 SRAM drivetrain. The10-42 cassette cost me an arm and a leg (very light, machined from solid, a work of art), but I'd rather not use it if the M600 will be a cassette cruncher, I'd be dissapointed if the cassette only lasts a couple of months, a couple of years is OK.
Normally when I ride a normal bike I'm careful to avoid shifting under load, is this easy to do with M600? I had a quick go on a mate's SWorks Turbo Levo, and sometimes it was difficult to avoid painful cassette noises from shifting under too much load because motor was still running after I stopped pedalling, but that could just be my lack of exerience with the bike.
I noticed in the photos above that the Seroxat has a gear shift sensor to cut motor power during shifts, but the Dengfu kit doesn't include this, does it matter?

If you learn how to shift, no need for sensor.
