Decathlon resillience

Curious to discover people's opinions on how reliable your Decathlon has been, in the wake of a fair few threads on Specialized & seemingly extensive issues around their Eebs.

Lots of us have upgraded our bikes, including me, so the core elements such as frame, bearings, motors, electrics etc. are of interest mostly. My Stilus has been pretty good, the saddle creaks & I have a bit of condensation in the Purion display but pretty trivial really considering the hammering it gets & it's generally much quieter to ride than my considerably higher spec Lapierre.

So this is bound to jinx it!

I’m approaching 900 miles on mine and without problems. I’ve just had to replace the brake pads and I’m on my third rear tyre but they are just consumables.

Buying the bike was a bit of a punt to get me back cycling and I’m now ready for something “better’ and it seems there is nothing out there that can be guaranteed to be 100% reliable. Do I stick and upgrade or go hunting for the unicorn of eebs.

My Stilus has been brilliant. Over 1000 miles without fault. It’s smooth, comfortable and quiet. Fantastic.

Yep jinked it.

Bosch lockring came loose and almost caused a massive problem. Caught it just in time I think but having had loose crank arms at first now I can’t budge it! Umph. Tools enroute.

Think this is a problem with mail order bikes... No pdq done before people start riding, I think we are supposed to check every nut and bolt but how many really do this properly.

2,000 miles plus and everything is great. Very Happy, love this bike. Good luck to those looking to get a V2 when it's released

Another 20 miles under the belt today. I greased the dropper with copper grease, after getting hold of a chap from KS who advised it would stop the creaking & a lovely, silent ride. Even the condensation in the Purion has gone. On a mechanical level, I really can't fault the bike.

Just back from a cheeky hour out & suddenly the bike isn't shifting so well & the dropper won't stay down, so it looks like I'm off to Halfords for a couple of gear cables & a bit of a refresh on things.

Could just be stretch and they both just need adjusting ?? Either that or you dropped a viagra down the seat tube by accident.

Could well be, Zims. I guess we'll find out. The gears are tending to shift lazily & not correcting in the barrel, so that may be a sticky cable, dirt ingress etc, the dropper actuates but the lever isn't fully returning which would suggest a bit of stretch or maybe the lever end cable clamp working loose. I'll get into the spanner action tomorrow & work it out.

Hi

Now done around 1650 miles, and replaced everything on bike with exception of frame, rear shock, motor, battery , crank arms and rear wheel, bike has been hammered to death on a regular basis. I had error code show up on display and power cut out at 1530 miles It was a sensor fault but cleared straight away fault appeared twice within a 60 second period. It has not appeared again in last 2 weeks fingers crossed. My stilus is now in my opinion fully sorted and equals if not exceeds the ability's of my mates £5500 e bikes from Scott ,Orbea , canyon and merida. Build quality on frame is good and well packaged motor is well protected from the elements also. bike stands me at around £4500 but i am still on 500 wh battery. I am glad i purchased it and have enjoyed making the upgrades over the last 8 month period.

Got to the bottom of my dropper problem. The post is a cable actuated KS Rage. The actual cartridge actuation depends on a tiny steel ferrule whch is cradled in the actuator on the post. A small bit of the cradle has broken off so the cable ferrule pings off the cradle when you pull the lever.

Anyone know the best way to get hold of Decathlon? This is deffo a warranty defect thing.

I’ve just contacted customer services with order number and under the warranty drop down to see if can get a new battery cover . Probably a good starting point , you can upload pics

Got a quick reply asking which store I’d like to pick my part up from, have asked about turnaround times but not heard back yet. Can imagine it being very slow...

Hmm. Emailed Decathlon & they referred me to Jungle who are the distributor for KS. Not sure I'm pleased with that, this isn't a tennis racquet after all. Right now, I own a 25kg dirt jump bike.

True. If I'd have bought a spesh, I'd have had the courier bring a new dropper at the same time he brought the fourth new motor..

Finding KS parts on ebay is easy, the price of such cable actuator is probably cheap and not too diffficult to service since you could get the picture.

Not in the UK it's not. Anyway, for anyone curious, this is the damaged coupler. it's literally a couple of mm of metal that has broken off & is causing the clamp bolt to disconnect. Obvs it's not a Decathlon issue, it's a KS post. Arguably, since the whole kit & caboodle is a rebadged Lombardo & a bunch of 3rd party components, Decathlon can claim 100% reliability. ?

Mine broke at same point around 5 months ago, luckily LBS had the part in stock and replaced same day, but after a further month of use the actual mounting for cable broke. So i just replaced with brand X..

I retrofitted a Brand x to another bike & agree it's a decent dropper. I'll see what Jungle say before jumping one way or another. Fwiw, I also have a KS Lev on my third bike & it's been faultless for years. The end of the coupler is clearly a stress point on a thin piece of metal. My guess is it's a relatively common issue & newer posts have a redesigned part addressing it.

Not sure about this contacting decathlon for help with spare parts.. they have said they have given my email address to my nearest decathlon store to check for parts. Do the stores actually hold parts for these bikes ?

Doubt it & anyway it's a warranty claim, so I did what was required of me in the circumstances. I did also call my local store, no answer...
